I would recommend this course. We played it twice. Moved along fairly well. All holes were challenging. Well maintained. Stayed in a house directly across the street. Convenient location. There is a restaurant at the course. Good and reasonable food. Go play!

Northwood is a true hidden gem. The course plays like a love letter to the game of golf and is worth the trip from wherever you call home. With respect, the only explanation for a negative review of this course would be that the writer simply "doesn't get it."

You'll enjoy a slow-burn trip through towering redwoods that are best enjoyed with a loved one or close friend in the final hours of the day. Bring a speaker, que your favorite rhythm and blues, jam band, or yacht rock playlist and stuff your cell phone and watch in your bag. You don't them.

If you're coming from a distance, don't miss out on Jenner Beach or a float on the Russian River while you're here. Core memories are waiting.

Buy the plane ticket.

golfers are often surprised when they learn that alister Mackenzie designed this course . . . 9 holes cut out of the redwoods, making it what I once called "the noisiest course" in northern California considering the sound of ball hitting tree . . . the course is in good shape although caretakers are challenged because the big redwoods block out much of the sun . . .the northwood restaurant is a good place to kick back, enjoy a cold drink and some good food . . .

I spent some time in st helena and was on my way to the coast so since this was on my way and it was a allister Mchenzie design I decided to stop and play, this was a mistake, it was only $34 dollars for 9 and about 45 for 18 but after 9 holes you would need to pay me to play the second 9
It is a short course and you need to know what side if the fairway to hit your first shot on or you will need to hit a bit hook or slice for your second shot because the greens are protected by these huge trees, they could actually cut down some of these trees and make it a better layout, but besides that the fairways were 1 inch long and not enough grass to hold the ball up, if you like to play the ball down stay Away, just because you have grass and build greens doesn't make it a course
Sorry but that was not fun

We go here twice a week, once for lessons and once to play as we're on
vacation in Bodega Bay. Vern is a fantastic teacher/pro who has helped
my game and my granddaughter's game. He's got an easy going attitude
and knows how to teach. Playing the course is a pleasure in the redwoods.
It's flat and 9 holes, just right for us.

Wow, what a wonderful trip back in time to the old days of golf...we played in the rain and mist under the redwoods, just like Dr M. would have played himself. The course is not difficult but beautiful and easy to walk. We played two rounds of 18 on our 39th Wedding Anniversary Trip and made a wonderful memory. The restaraunt is cozy and the staff is very attentive. Local vibes abound. We only had drinks and chips and salsa but the menu looked inviting for a next stay. Recommend 100%.

Unique experience golfing among the giant redwood trees. Course in great condition and facilities very good. Best to book in the mornings before it is too crowded (in season). Can have excellent drinks on the veranda of the restaurant and bar near the pro shop shop after playing a round.

We decided to visit the redwood forest area west of Sonoma, and try a little 9-hole golf course along the Russian River. Their website looked great, and it certainly didn't disappoint. TheNorthwood Golf Club is built into a giant redwood forest, and each hole offers astounding views of giant redwoods - the course has been there since the 1920's, affording golfers beautiful views and a challenging round. We arrived early in the morning, and the sunlight streaming through the giant trees was beautiful to behold. We used the course's rental clubs (they were 'ok') and headed out onto the course, Each hole is laid out with those beautiful redwoods, and it's a challenge to stay on the fairway and avoid the trees when you're constantly looking at the beauty of the course. You can certainly hear many a 'thwockkkkk' throughout your round as various golfers stray off the course and into the trees. The course is very well maintained, and an easy walk.

After our round, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast at the clubhouse, which was not fancy, but great - pancakes, eggs just the way we asked, plenty of toast and coffee. Oh, and Bloody Mary's to round it out.

What a great way to start the day! I wish this course was in my neighbourhood!

Beautiful golf course! Great for hot days when you want to play...lots of shade. Well maintained. Also has motel rooms...not fancy but if from out of town, convenient.

We call it knockwood because there are so many trees to hit... maybe it reflects our poor skills. A beautiful course with much variety. Nice restaurant where you can sit outside and watch golfers tee off.
