My wife and I rented a canoe and spent a few hours enjoying the river, seeing birds, trees, and many other couples out in canoes too! A relaxing activity that involves a good dose of exercise. Definitely recommend.

My husband and I visited the area for our honeymoon and rented an outrigger canoe from Catch-A-Canoe. They were really helpful in getting us set up and we had an amazing time. It was the first time either of us had used an outrigger and while it took some adjusting we got into a good rhythm. We saw a few... More

This is the third time we took an outrigger up the Big River using Catch A Canoe. The trip is very relaxing (you do need to paddle and fight some wind so it is not like a massage). Time it with the ingoing and outgoing tides, which the guys in the store can help you with and it will be... More

Great way to see nature at its best and the beautiful Big River. The Eco boat is an outrigger canoe made from redwood. It has a solar operated motor that you can barely hear when it is activated (only used when absolutely necessary). You can paddle if you like, which is mostly when the guide needs a little help turning... More

We stumbled on this place and ended up having a great day of paddling up and down the river. The outrigger canoes are super stable but they have other options as well. Very helpful staff and good for all ages really. Just watch the tide.

The staff here is very good: super friendly and knowledgeable while maintaining that laid back North Coast vibe. My family of four plus our 65# dog lucked into a large canoe with double outriggers--- super stable and easy to turn with its foot-controlled rudder. We did the standard 3-hour tour, with all of us paddling (including my 8-year-old and 12-year-old)... More

We booked the 8 person wood outrigger with Rick for $65/pp and enjoyed the smooth ride powered by a solar powered engine, sail and occasionally our canoe paddles. We saw a group of otters, sea lion and lots of birds. Rick has owned and run Catch a Canoe for 30 years and knowledgable about the history and nature of Big... More

My friend and I took our two dogs on the outrigger canoe up the river and had a blast. They have this one canoe with a big padded platform in the middle where the dogs can hang out and it was perfect! We rowed an hour up river and another hour back and saw two otters and lots of egrets... More

We rented a kayak from Catch A Canoe & Bicycles Too. The folks who work there were very helpful. We brought our bulldog and they outfitted her with a life jacket and helped her get into the canoe. The water is mild - Big River is a gentle class 1 river - so anyone can kayak successfully and not look... More

There were 5 of us so we were able to get the very special outrigger with a "sidecar", but all their finely crafted redwood boats are amazing works of art. We timed our trip to coordinate with the tide, just like they recommended and although it doesn't appear to be a current, I'm sure it helped. We went upstream with... More
