We rented two bikes from Catch a Canoe and had an excellent time riding through the trail across the river. It's a beautiful ride through the woods, along the river; we saw two seals! The bikes were very good and the two employees who helped us were extremely personable and helpful. Great company!

The outrigger canoe experience was unique and exceptional. The scenery was breathtaking, the sound of the birds was serene and the sun came out on the river in spite of the fog in Mendocino. The staff was extremely helpful, answering all questions before I made our reservation and made the entire experience very pleasant. A great way to spend time in Mendocino!

We'd seen these canoes from the Little River Beach last time we were in town and made sure they were on our To Do List his time around. The only double outrigger canoes around, they made for a lovely afternoon on the Little River (harbor seals and otter family included at no extra charge). Incredibly stable and easy to maneuver, and some boats can accommodate up to 12 people (at least that's what the staff said). Would highly recommend!

We had a day in Mendocino and this was a bit of a last minute idea. When my friends told me it was canoes I was a bit skeptical as I prefer to go by kayak. But these are unlike any canoes I have ever been in. They are handmade, redwood canoes -- and have been made by the same craftsperson at a rate of one per year. They now have more than 30 to rent. They come in a variety of sizes and can fit from 2 to 8 people. They are outrigger canoes -- they are quite narrow, but have stabilizing floats on both sides that make the canoes much more stable and really, impossible to flip over. You sit a bit higher up than a normal canoe, which I thought made it easier to paddle. The steering is done by foot pedal, so it also doesn't matter if you paddle at the same time or on different sides of the canoe. The canoe itself was both functional and a piece of art. And the river was stunning. We saw river otters, harbor seals, birds of all kinds. It was quiet on the river with only a few of us out there. We went early and were in our canoe by 9:30. When we returned about 11:30 there was a line of people waiting to be fitted and put into canoes. It wasn't a madhouse, but I think going early ensures you have a more peaceful trip.
The Mendocino River is the second longest tidal river in the US. And the tidal current extends 8 miles up the river. It is critical to know when the tide is high, which way the tide is flowing and which way the wind is blowing as if these are misaligned you could be fighting both the wind and the tide which makes for a difficult paddle.
I thought this experience was fun, relaxing, renewing and well worth doing.

Spent three hours in a redwood outrigger canoe. Oh god. This is what life is for. Seals, a kingfisher, families of geese and jumping fish. This was serene. The quiet and the beauty. They said give the harbour seals space. They came curiously to us, popping up right in front of the canoe. Only one other canoe out. Thanks guys. A memory forever.

The redwood canoes have a rudder system for steering so riders can paddle on any side they want. Service was friendly, punctual and professional. The estuary is spectacularly beautiful. Very relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Rented an outrigger canoe for four and next day bicycles for two. Very helpful and instructive staff, beautiful location on the river. The bicycle path that is adjacent to the river is easy for beginners.

I brought my 17 year old yellow labrador retriever here after I read that they have canoes that will seat dogs. The article I read raved about this place so I had high exceptions. Not only did they meet them, they exceeded them. The canoes are virtually impossible to flip, so they are safe even for first-timers. Staff are extremely personable and friendly and will walk you through everything, from what canoe to use to where to go and what to see and do. I was so impressed at how gentle and willing they were to assist my senior dog who needed extra assistance.

Once inside the boat, we paddled up the river and saw many sea lions frolicking about in the river surrounded by gorgeous natural scenery. It was peaceful and serene yet vibrant and thrilling. You could easily make this a slow, casual and relaxed outing or you could make this a high-energy adventure. The choice is up to you and the amazing staff will guide you accordingly. Not only was this the highlight of my trip to the Mendocino Coast, it was an experience I will always remember!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary and decided to opt for the canoe vs. the biking tour since we've never done this before. So glad we did! The serenity of canoeing up the river and back is indescribable... Would do it again in a heartbeat. The canoes are pretty fool proof and very user friendly. Can't go wrong with this one. Loved it!

We initially rented kayaks for the river, but after further consideration we decided the outrigger would be a unique experience. We had a great time and also saw multiple birds and seals along the way. We did have a little windy patch as we were coming back against the tide, but just chalked it up to a little arm workout for the day. Ha ha ha!

It is a nice way to spend a couple hours in nature, and the guys that checked us in were very nice an knowledgeable.
