We happened on this by chance and decided to have a look and boy were we glad. It has an old log jail complete with metal cells which were relocated here and date back a long way. The school house is there and lots of Interesting outside bits....I can't give it all away! Inside there is a gift shop and lots more things for kids and grown ups. Please pop in if you are there...you won't be sorry. We had a picnic with us and sat in the sun at the tables outside. Just delightful! The curator us James W Boyd and he couldn't have been more helpful if he tried. Thank you for a great visit.

We saw a sign on the road and followed it. It was such a nice surprise. So much to see and so well done. The school has chalk drawings from the late 1800's they found under wallpaper. They are installing an ore cart and tracks in addition to all the rest already there.

We stumbled on this museum and it was so worth it. The Alpine County Museum is one of the best curated small museums I visited and I've seen many in the US and abroad. They have a jail, schoolhouse, and blacksmith shop set up on the property that creatively demonstrate the times. Love how they use stories of real people to illustrate each place.... the murderer, the mountain man, the teacher, etc. The collection in the main museum are creatively displayed & described. Great little gift shop. Friendly staff! Well worth a stop!
