Neighborhood: Venice
Venice has always danced to its own beat as the epicenter of bohemian culture in Los Angeles. Along the boardwalk there are street performers and local craftsmen selling their wares. Original paintings, souvenirs, and jewelry are on display. Crowds of visitors marvel at the sites while weightlifting enthusiasts pump iron in plain view, and skateboarders do their tricks around the skate park. All of it happens under the warm California sun with sprawling views of sand and sea. Heading east, the main drags of Abbot Kinney Boulevard and Main Street are lined with boutique shops, some major retail stores, art galleries and restaurants. Here the ambiance is more relaxed and upscale than the frenetic boardwalk area. Venice is a mostly walkable (and certainly bikeable) neighborhood, full of areas to explore.

Bluewater sailing is one of the most thoroughly professional organisations I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. They are fun, astute, knowledgeable and sincere. They've taught me how to sail and given me extra time and help where I needed it, and made me want to make sailing a big part of my future! Thank you Eliot, Ryan, Wendy and the whole team ! ❤️🍷

All of the staff and instructors at Bluewater are very smart, patient, and friendly. They really invest in you and want you to grow into your best over a committed process rather than getting you in and out, as I've heard other schools can sometimes do. I'm very glad that I chose Bluewater and am decidedly in it for the long haul because of how great they've been.

Fantastic experience out on the open sea. The vessel we used gives you a real authentic feeling of what it's like sailing. I highly recommend this company to anyone interested in learning how to manually sail a ship as a hobby or sport.

The training was amazing. I signed up for the MLK intensive course, which I learned the basics of keelboat and sailing over three days.
Ryan was a great instructor. He was clear in explaining the terms and guiding us through how to think when we sail. He also made sure we get as many practice as possible and effectively ensured everyone of us were able to sail well on the water.
Besides the course itself, the people at Bluewater Sailing (especially Elliot and Wendy) are friendly and thoughtful. I have recommended Bluewater to friends that want to experience sailing as well as enjoying it long term. This is definitely a great community to be part of and build solid foundations for sailing.

I want to thank the Crew at Bluewater Sailing for an incredible experience. My friend and I booked a sail vacation in Croatia for the September 2023 and needed to get our IPC ( International proficiency certification) so we could bareboat charter.
Cole was our initial contact and helped us tremendously. Elliot, the captain of Bluewater Sail, made us a customized checkout specific to our previous sailing experience.
The ASA test were administered on sight and graded right away. Errors were discussed.
The on the water checkout was done professionally, as a matter of fact we learned a few things.
I recommend Bluewater sailing for a great experience. My wife, a sailing novice, is going to take a few lessons before our trip
Thanks again, anchors away!

We needed a refresher lesson and our skipper Mark was great! We appreciated his comfortable, friendly manner in talking us through everything from rigging to sail trimming and docking. He’s a wealth of information, very skilled and communicated well. We had a unstressed practice time on the water, where we learned a lot - but most importantly our love for the sport was renewed.

Took the Advanced Coastal cruising course ASA106 and it was everything Elliott said it would be. Great instructor (Gregg) who pushed me to my sailing limits while maintaining a safe environment for me, the crew and the boat.
Learned a lot, met some great crew mates and had an amazing trip to Santa Cruz Island!
Everyone I interacted with at BlueWater Sailing was very professional and friendly.

My family recently took sailing classes at Bluewater Sailing in Marina del Rey, CA (along the coast of Los Angeles). The experience was incredible, and our captain/instructor Peter Damisch was very knowledgeable.
Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I did the basic keelboat course for the American Sailing Association exam 101 and passed with 98%, thanks to my excellent tutor Bryan. I found the school to be pleasant, friendly and professional. Amy runs the office really well. I had not done any sailing before but I soon got into the swing of it, and after 3 days of private tuition, was able to take my Catalina 22 out into the open ocean with a crew of two all by myself (sticking to near the coast). It's a great feeling. The marina on Saturday is crowded with lots of boats so if you're a nervous first timer like me, then you might want to do the course on a weekday if you can do that. But then again, negotiating the boats is all part of the fun and you get to learn rights of way too. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience and I wouldn't hesitate recommending Bluewater to anyone. Thanks Bryan, Amy and Elliot!

Elloit openly argued with one student in front of the rest of us and threatened we could only practice on buoys instead of real docks. A particularly attractive female was given priority and more time at the helm than the rest of us while he constistantly paid more attention to her. Of seven students, only two passed a written exam after the course. I attribute the abismal failure of more than 70 percent of the class to poor teaching skills.
