We took a day to drive the Kananaskis & Wildlife Drive, and are so glad we did. It was a cloudy day with occasional flashes of blue sky. We stopped at the village for lunch (grilled cheese sandwiches) and walked around the lovely village. We then drove the entire loop and did some hiking to break up the trip. The... More

Kananaskis Country is one of the most beautiful parts of Alberta, and in the fall it is really outstanding! There are hundreds of great hiking trails. To top it off, in the fall you will be treated to the most glorious displays of golden larch and poplar trees, set against the magnificence of the deep green forests and rugged Rocky... More

We started the day with a walk to Grassi Lakes. As others have said , get there early or later, even then it will be busy, but worth seeing. We then continued on the loop road around Kananaskis country. This is much quieter, with many worthwhile places to stop along the unpaved road. I found this quite hard going by... More

King's Creek Canyon in Kananaskis Country, Alberta. A spectacular canyon hike for the whole family. This hike is doable for the whole family yet also challenging. Walk through a winding deep canyon. Many creek crossings but no bridges. Kids of all ages will have the most fun since it is like a natural playground. Fun part is to figure out... More

My husband and I spent a day driving though Kananaskis Country admiring the beautiful scenery. This outing turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip! We didn't see any wildlife but the views were gorgeous! I highly recommend making this pRt of your trip to Banff!

We did this tour after dropping the kids of for white water rafting which had its meeting point at the casino. Take the 40 at the intersection with the 1, this is about 15 minutes drive from Canmore where you see signs for the Stoney Nakoda Casino. Stop at the Barrier Lake info centre - you can get lots of... Beautiful mountains and endless blue lakes along this gravel road to the lakes. No tour busses, no huge volumes of tourists, only serious hikers. Along the way we saw deer crossing the road and mountain goats!

Kananaskis County or K County, as locals prefer to call it fondly,is really a Shangrila, a natural terrain with the right proportions of towering mountains, forested valleys, gurgling streams, gushing rivers and serene lakes faithfully reflecting the peaks around. When I first prepared my itinerary for the Western leg of our Trans Canada Road Odyssey from Toronto to the Rockies and... More

What a beautiful drive through the Kananaskis valley. The peaks still have snow caps and the mountains are truly majestic. We have enjoyed several a hike in the area and you don't have to pay expensive park fees. Grab a hike or a bite at the Delta Lodge and your day will be complete. If you are lucky some wildlife... Driving through this area gives you a small idea of the vastness and beauty of the region. You can get quite high on the roads through this area, and also stop to enjoy the views or follow one of the marked trails from the road. There are a few places to stop for refreshments, but also large areas where you... More
