I love this area. It's so beautiful and it feels like you have it all to yourself. There are amazing lakes and trails. Lots of opportunity for year round activities. It's best if you plan in advance; Kananaskis Outfitters is great! Hwy 40 is a spectacular drive if you're looking for something non-active. You don't have to pay to get... More

Take a drive either in a loop starting from Canmore, or just go to the Kananaskis village and take the short and beautiful 30 minute hike along the rim of the village. The views are incredible!

Spectacular valley with tremendous mountain scenery. There are lots of stops and picnic sites so that you can really take in the grandeur of these mountains.

We left Canmore on the interstate highway and then took the Route 40 and Smith-Dorian highway (no 782) to loop back to Canmore. The SD highway is an unmade road and at the Canmore end is a bit narrow, but although a long part of the loop journey it was not exactly a bumpy drive (did however leave my hire... More

The Kananaskis Valley is well worth the trip. There is no such thing as a bad view and that is in the winter. The summer would be fantastic as well.

We took a day to drive the Kananaskis & Wildlife Drive, and are so glad we did. It was a cloudy day with occasional flashes of blue sky. We stopped at the village for lunch (grilled cheese sandwiches) and walked around the lovely village. We then drove the entire loop and did some hiking to break up the trip. The... More

Kananaskis Country is one of the most beautiful parts of Alberta, and in the fall it is really outstanding! There are hundreds of great hiking trails. To top it off, in the fall you will be treated to the most glorious displays of golden larch and poplar trees, set against the magnificence of the deep green forests and rugged Rocky... More

We started the day with a walk to Grassi Lakes. As others have said , get there early or later, even then it will be busy, but worth seeing. We then continued on the loop road around Kananaskis country. This is much quieter, with many worthwhile places to stop along the unpaved road. I found this quite hard going by... More
