About Tributary Whitewater Tours - South Fork American River Rafting
The South Fork American River is the most popular California whitewater rafting river in the West. It is exciting and lots of fun, with many memorable class 2-3+ rapids. The river flows for 21 miles through the green and gold foothills of California's Gold Rush Country and it has served as an introduction to California rafting for countless beginners. The South Fork American River is suitable for nearly everyone, including families (kids from 8 yrs), corporate and youth groups. We offer ½ day, 1 day, and 2 day trips, all meeting at our camp in the Coloma/Lotus area and will start with an orientation & safety talk. Life jackets will be fitted and paddling instruction is given. Each raft will be manned by a professional, skilled river guide. Located 1 hr east of Sacramento the South Fork American is ideal for a multi-day combo trip with the Middle Fork American, North Fork American, or North Fork Yuba Rivers.

We booked through Tributary (now teamed up with Mariah and one other to form Raft California) for the 1130-1630 south fork trip. We were looking for something exciting to do with our 7 and 10 year olds but didn’t want to risk a longer trip given it was their first time. Everything was pretty much spot on. Nice camp setting and a good bbq lunch was provided before a sensible and comprehensive briefing. I suspect we benefited from one of the more experienced guides because of our young kids but Jeremy was superb. Entertaining and fun yet clearly very competent and with a good level of authority in the boat. I’ve little to compare it to in terms of rafting but we had a fabulous time, and it ranks as the highlight of our two-week road trip. It’s a massive plus being allowed to get out and swim, and the rapids are about right for adventurous children or first time adults. All in all, thoroughly recommend at what seems a comparatively reasonable price.

Rafting on the lower part of south fork with Tributary was a terrific experience. incredibly fun, just the right challenge level for beginner family, refreshing dips in the water, and just beautiful scenery everywhere. Suzy was our guide and she is simply the best!

We did the half-day trip on the south American River, and it was 4 hours of pure enjoyment, beauty, fun and even some terror. Some of the rapids are quite a rush, and our guide, Ian, was really good at his job. I hope to return one day to do an overnight trip. This was a great company to do business with...highly recommend.

What a TREMEDOUSLY FABULOUS EXPERIENCE!! I can't say ENOUGH GREAT things about this White Water Rafting Company! From reservations to picking up refreshments for the ride home- these guys were awesome. The "Reservation" gals were on the ball, quick to accommodate, clearly explained the entire process to the "Newbee", and gave detailed directions to get there. Mariah even reimbursed a double booking payment on the spot (because two family members were so excited we called in twice!) Our Driver (Bill) took photos for us, emailed them to me, and got us safely to our launch point through the turns and cliff side roads... and back to our trucks from our end point. OUR GUIDE (Dagen) was seriously the BEST River rafting guide on the planet (I'm certain of it- even though this was my first time LOL)!!! Knowledgeable, 6 years experienced, smart, fun, and confident... We were so "at ease" knowing that he could take care of us AND show us a REALLY good time. He directed us through all the twists and turns of the 21 mile river run like it was the back of his hand all the while telling us about history, ecology, geology, and wild-life facts of the river gorge we went through. SOOOO AMAZING. Shockingly, I'm not even sore today, from him guiding/steering us through somewhat effortlessly. We did the South Fork Full Day (21 Mile) Adventure... and what an excellent choice (and Price) for our Group!! (Assisted with that decision by Linda) We had 2 Boys ages 13 and 15, Me and my husband and his brother (middle aged) and Grandpa (An active age 72). Even though Grandpa fell out twice- we ALL had a GREAT time and can't WAIT to do it again next year! maybe the TWO day! :-)

Went out yesterday with the wife, adult sons, and the oldest's GF. Plenty of water, amazing weather and the best guide ever - Susi Q had us spinning around having fun in the slow stuff, having balance competitions standing on the rails in the flat stuff, and trying to keep us off the rocks in the fast stuff when we neglected to follow her instructions. (sorry about the Catcher's Mitt!). All the other boats seemed to have fun too, but bring 5 or more folks so you can fill out a boat and have Susi take you for a spin!
