This was my favorite part of our vacation.
Steve, the guide was excellent. He was cool, but still stayed professional.
We learned so much about the LA Hood life from him. He showed us where all the hood and black movies were made. He showed us where rappers like Eazy-E, Kendrick Lamar and so many others grew up. You can tell Steve was very well respected in the hood. He even stopped at his barbershop so some people on the tour could use the bathroom. He played West Coast music in the van to make the trip even better. We stopped at different locations like the Marathon Store and showed us several places where Nipsey Hustle owned and was building up in the community. We also able to take pictures at murals and landmarks. It was an 420 friendly tour also.
My family really enjoyed ourselves. I would recommend the tour for anyone that loves hip hop and wants to learn more about the LA hood culture.
I would do it again!

I’d definitely recommend this tour guys. Our tour guide was amazing! He VERY informative. He interacted with us and and was very well known around every location that he took us to he made us feel safe, In environments that didn’t seem as safe. However I would really recommend doing this to ANYONE. Literally everything you ever thought about seeing and heard off... he shows you and tell you allllll about it. Love the facts that he changed his life around. “ I dont gang bang, but I am apart of a gang” I can’t think of his name, but overall really great dude. Is probably do it again. Also go with people you can always have a good time with. It will help. Also go catch up on some movies because there were times I was LOST 😂

I booked this tour expecting a highlight of famous rappers and places seen on tv or mentioned in songs. It was all of that and so much more! The Hood Life Tour is a modern black history, music, and culture tour of LA. It started with music bumping in the van. Big Mike was the tour guide but he was more like a friend showing us around the city he’s grown up in and lives in. It was enlightening to hear his personal perspective of LA, music, and gang history. We went to South Central LA, Crenshaw, Watts, and Compton. We saw the film locations of Training Day, Boyz N The Hood, and Friday. He allowed time for pictures, quick stops for snacks/drinks, restroom breaks, and we got the opportunity to shop with the street vendors outside of Nipsey Hussle’s Marathon store. I enjoyed this one-of-kind tour and I highly recommend it.

Disappointed!
Nothing Like The Reviews!
This tour has been on my bucket list for ages, the reviews only added to my anticipation and excitement of finally going on this tour.
Maybe we got a different tour guide??
A dirty mini bus, with greasy windows and very noisy air-con, made it really difficult to hear anything the diver was saying, or take pictures through the glass.
The driver had no microphone or speakers in the bus, consequently we heard absolutely nothing at all!
The only stop we made was at a Crenshaw Wear shop, where the driver got a plate of food, whilst we looked at poorly made, overpriced T Shirts and Hoodies.
Sadly we didn’t get to see, let alone stop at the ‘Welcome to Compton sign’.
See, let alone get photos in front of the many murals, or see the famous Watts tower!
Feel absolutely disappointed and gutted, that what was supposed to be the highlight of our trip was a complete waste of money!

Absolutely fantastic tour, highly recommend. If you are visiting L.A. you must go on this tour. It was booked by my wife who grew up with hip hop/ rap music, my son is really into it too. I’m more of of Motown Town fan and wasn’t sure this would be my ‘thing’. Originally I was going on the tour for them and as I didn’t really know what to expect I wasn’t overly excited by it. However, the music is only part of the culture, the tour takes you around the hood and you see, and experience, the life there first hand. Our guide, Big Mike, is fantastic, he is absolutely fascinating, I was never done asking him questions. Mike was born in the hood, he grew up there and still lives in Compton. He knows everyone. He has led a remarkable life, he’s 65 now so he’s seen, and done, a lot. He is very open and honest, just being able to meet him was worth the price of the trip alone.
This was a private tour, me, my wife and my son, spent 3 hours with Mike driving around all the different places, stopping to take photos and learning all about the neighbourhoods. Being with Mike felt 100% safe, it’s clear he’s really respected in the area. We travelled to America from the UK and spent a fortnight in L.A., San Francisco & New York. It was a busy holiday, we did a lot. Out of all the places we went and things we did this Hood Life tour was by far the best experience. I hope to keep in touch with Mike and one day return to L.A., if I do I will be booking the Hood Life tour again - it was brilliant.
Thanks Big Homie.

Excellent tour with Big Mike! I took my nephew and he was allowed to sit in the front and ask some extra questions. We saw some awesome sites, and heard some crazy stories. It is clear Big Mike has an excellent reputation and rapport with those in the neighborhoods. I was impressed that while speaking of the Rodney King riots he was very objective about the incident. I work for the PD but didn't mention that. I felt like his retelling of the events was accurate and not biased at all. One thing I did have an issue with was another passenger. There were a couple of places Big Mike asked us to put down our phones. One person refused to do so and continued to film in one of the worst projects. Like stated before, Big Mike's reputation is what allows this tour to happen. If you go on this tour and are asked to put down your phone, PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE!

This is by far the best tour I have ever been on. It was genuine and authentic unlike tours that are generally scripted, superficial and boring. You get what you pay for and then some, Big Mike gives it the feel as though you're just touring around with mates. He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. I had the best time on this tour, I would 100% go again. I only had one issue with this tour and that was that it ended. Big Mike and the team should be proud of creating such a business and providing people the chance to experience something other than the standard tours for people travelling. Thank you 😀👌

Even with it raining cats and dogs, Big Mike kept it real and was very knowledgeable about the hood. Awesome tour, I really enjoyed learning about the culture and all of the stories surrounding the neighborhoods. Great tour, recommend it for anyone who likes 90s Hip-Hop or anyone who likes the movies like Boyz n the Hood or Friday.

This tour was incredible and very interesting. Steve is very knowledgable and as an ex gang member himself tells you his own stories which all adds the the experience. This tour is 420 friendly, plays very loud music and stops at a liquor store so you can also drink. If you don’t like either of those then this tour really isn’t for you. If you do and love hip hop then this is totally for you and would highly recommend!
