Eight locations and 17 rooms! Other cities should be jealous that so many top-rated games are under one company’s roof…although they have seven locations. The multiple games allows for booking back-to-back rooms. Rather than submit 17 ratings here is our list...the ranking are relative, of course. We can't wait for them to open more!
We have played about 85 Escape rooms - and all the currently offered Maze Rooms in Los Angeles...here are our rankings by group
Top Rooms – Art Direction, variety of puzzle, immersion in the story and Clues and puzzle that make sense for the room place these on our all-time greatest list
Jack the Ripper – completely logical and well-clued; very fun progression and payoff
One Way Ticket – art direction is off the charts…you feel like you really are on a moving train
Secret Mission – 70s immersion with fun technology in keeping with the theme
Excellent Rooms – perhaps these would have been at the top a year ago but now are passed by the art direction and sets of the top rated rooms – still high-fun factor rooms where clues and immersion in the story are first rate. These rooms are highly recommended but missed the top 3.
Pirate Bay – very good and well clued pirate theme
Prison – one of the better prison sets we have seen…need at least three players
Motel – completely immersive and well clued
Demon Hunter – completely immersive and well clued
Very Good rooms – we DO recommend these but place the others higher on the list. Some of the issues are noted.
Lunar Mission – huge set…some things did not work properly for us and puzzles had distractor clues…nice payoff at end
Magic Kingdom…some cool effects did not quite work and required a call to game master
Vampire…some cool tech but some of the puzzles require leaps of conclusion that were not properly clued. Not a single lock or combination - everything was reactive.
Lord of the Swords…one game piece was not possible to read and one puzzle had a silly added complication
Wizards tower…some hard-to-find pieces require scavenging beyond what we found fun…and one piece of equipment could only be operated based on a lucky guess or a clue from the game master
We did not have fun in these rooms...maybe you will - but here are our issues.
FBI – one puzzle almost impossible to read; too many red herrings and despite being told not to move furniture…that was precisely what one puzzle required.
Pharaoh’s Tomb- some very weird technology for a Pharaoh’s tomb and some low light scavenging that was more frustrating than fun
Not recommended:
Portal – hard puzzles for the sake of hard puzzles…not reasonably clued
Castle – this room needs TLC. Some of the pieces were worn beyond recognition
Jungle Game – maybe a good one in its day but it missed the boat of theme and puzzle fun

I highly recommend this room! The production value is really, really high...great decorations, great use of technology, really clever clues. I think this room is more well thought out than the FBI room, though both are pretty entertaining. Can't wait to try the new ones they have opening in the next couple months!

I can't say enough great things about Maze Rooms.
I booked my event for me and six other friends a month in advance and the people who contacted me were very accommodating.
When the big day arrived, my friends and I were welcomed by our host who briefed us on our Castle adventure. We were then locked in the room for an hour and utilized our wits to solve the complex puzzles and riddles.
No spoilers here, we managed to escape the room in less than an hour and the event was well worth the money. The production value was high, the puzzles were challenging, and the Maze Room staff was very helpful & friendly.
Do yourself a favor and book an adventure with Maze Rooms. You won't regret it.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We were a group of 4 who attempted Portal on 7/28/18. We all have a good amount of escape room experience and have really enjoyed every Maze Room brand game that we have done.
We were excited to tackle Maze Room's only room listed as an 'Impossible" difficulty and it was in fact 'Impossible' because many of the puzzles were broken. I was fully prepared the loose the game on my own merit, but loosing because the room was old, worn out and in need of repair was not the experience any of us wanted. Additionally, The GameMaster seemed checked out and uninterested in us having a good experience which was odd because every previous Maze Room GameMaster has been engaging and genuinely interested in us have a great experience.
For Example:
We attempted a puzzle that we got incorrect on the first try and it locked-us-out. We struggled for 5-10 minutes trying to figure it out and finally asked her for a hint over the walkie-talkie. She entered the room and admitted that the puzzle was frequently broken and tried to reset it, which she had difficulty doing herself. Any time something like this has happened in previous rooms, the GameMaster (watching on a monitor) would realize that we were struggling with a known-issue and let us know that the issue was game related and not us getting it wrong. She wasted 5-10 minutes of our time struggling with a broken puzzle before we were able to reset it and try again.
There were also additional issues consistent with an worn out game including:
- Black Light paint that was too old and faded to be detected or legible.
- A final puzzle that didn't make sense or work. We asked her to show us how it worked and she attempted it herself but could not trigger it either. She tried for a while to activate it and finally said "I know how it's supposed to work, but I can't make it work".
She then told us that our time was up and that we had to leave.
The 4 of us have only had excellent experiences at other Maze Room locations. This one however was a busted and worn-out room that did not live up to the Maze Room brand. It should be overhauled or retired.

Escape room review number 14 for us. We did the Jack the Ripper room in the Culver City location - the room was extremely fun and the set was rich and interesting. The puzzles in the Jack the RIpper room were thematic and made sense for the story line - a lot of attention to detail went into to weaving in historical points with the puzzles. There were several locks, to be sure, but also a delightful mix of "devices" that opened on something other than a key or combination. The customer service experience was also terrific - it is always a plus when the puzzle master is an escape game enthusiast (and in this case the room designer). Good use of "new school" and "old school" technologies - an all round satisfying and enjoyable experience. We will definitely start to work our way through the rest of their Los Angeles rooms - recommended!

Had gone with family and friends and loved all the puzzles of prison break. They weren't out rightly difficult or unmanageable yet quite challenging, making you think. With each stage unlocked, we felt thrilled and proud. Well designed game!

This is a great family & friends activity. Our host Katie was fun and did a nice set up to the Castle escape room. We went with two adults and three children (see note below regarding kids) and almost solved it! The success rate on this one was around 40% when we went, which was a bit intimidating, but the puzzles are super satisfying when you do figure them out. The room was well designed and featured more clever mechanism style puzzles than the straight up lock & key ones I have seen in some others.
There is ample parking in the rear of the La Brea building.
***Slight SPOILER alert if you bring kids***
The room will be fairly dark the entire time. The darkness and the creepy soundtrack leads to a Halloween (day not movie) level of scariness. We went with 3 girls - the 12 year old and one of the 9 year olds were totally into it; one 9 year old was a bit scared. Overall they had a great time!

Awesome escape room experience!! Our group of 3 booked the FBI room and loved it so much we came back the next day and did the Castle. Note: The FBI one is the hardest one and should not be done as the first one, like we did. If you have never done an escape room before (like us), don't do the FBI one first.
The rooms were amazing. The production value is fantastic, especially in the Castle. There's a lot of attention to detail. In addition, there are many cool mechanically activated clues that probably took a long time to build. The clues are very clever and well-thought out.
The staff was very helpful and provided hints when we got really stuck. We also asked for a hint once, and they were helpful then too. I throughly enjoyed our experience and want to go back for more!

The Spy room is a fun escape room with creative elements. It is well designed and the decor is good. The puzzles are logical and not so difficult that you can't escape. The owner seemed really nice and passionate about his business. He was in a really good mood for working on New Year's Eve.
Arrive early so you have time to find parking. The lot was full when we were there. That area can be tough for parking sometimes.

I saw a coupon for YELP10 ($10 off)- anybody know of a bigger discount code? or how to get tickets for cheaper? I saw someone on Yelp say they got it for about $33- but they did not say how

Can the rooms be completed by a pair of people, or do we need a larger group?

My husband & I did Maze Rooms Lunar Station, Spy, and Demon Hunter with just the 2 of us. You could always call and ask if the room you want to play has a minimum.

Hi,
Yes, it is ok, there is nothing scary inside, it is just a room decorated with clues, hints and hidden objects.
