About
The Basement is the number one Escape Game center in the US, with one continuous story line and 4 seperate experiences/chapters to choose from. We offer an immersive experience where you will be locked in a room. You will then have a set amount of time to find your way out using the hidden clues, key, trap doors, and items within the space. Various events will "distract" you throughout your journey and make the task of escaping slightly more difficult. Can You Escape? HISTORY: Established in 2014. The Basement: A Live Escape Room Experience opened for business with its flagship room "The Basement" in October 2014 and has since opened two more experiences: The Boiler Room and The Study. Dark House Entertainment is currently in the process of opening 3 more locations throughout the United States.

    Awesome Experience!
The escape room was just one of the adventures on our vacation, but by far it was the best adventure! We had so much fun the first time, that we stayed and did another escape room. They were both an awesome experience and we would and will definitely do it again if we ever get the opportunity to do so. Thank you to the staff for the greatest time!!! You were great! We Love the Escape Room!

    Amazing!!
Everything about this experience was amazing from the staff to the actual escape rooms. You really are able to feel immersed in each different room you do. My friends and I loved it so far we have done 3 for the rooms and are planning on coming here again!

    Great experience!
From start to finish (literally) was a complete experience. They did such a great job aesthetically. Without giving anything away, the room we chose to do was hard but not too hard with what was provided. Although we did not escape the basement, the replay value is present since they have alternate versions of the same rooms. Skylar was an awesome actor and made it even more thrilling. Best with a group of 3 or more. Jynx was a great host fro the evening. Will visit again for sure.

    Immersive, Intriguing, Challenging
For being my first ever escape room, front staff was very welcoming. The challenges of the puzzles were pretty amazing and our scare actor for The Study was absolutely wonderful. Very immersed in the roll and was awesome to interact with at the end. I hope to come back some more.

    Great Fear-themed escape rooms
Me and the family have been here two years in a row. The staff is great, and the live actors never fail to impress. We love being scared solving puzzles, this establishments brings the best of those two worlds and merges them perfectly.

First time experience was a blast
The Basement was the first Escape Room I've done and I had a lot of fun! Being able to solve the many different puzzles really brought a nice sense of accomplishment, especially while doing it with some friends that can be quite scary when they take the lead, haha. There seemed to have been quite a few ways to solve the puzzles which really helped the different approaches my friends and I took toward completing the room (our group was too large and had to split into two). If a certain actor ever reads this: I'm still really sorry for your "girl dinner".

    Best escape room in LA!
Amazing escape room! My friends and I have gone three times and we absolutely love the actors and the puzzles. We had Mig as our actor in the first game and we requested her for our third game. She is absolutely amazing and such a queen 🫶 Great experience!

    Fun and Scary
It’s a really fun and mentally challenging escape room. I’m going to be honest, if it wasn’t for one of my friends that was experienced in a certain category of hobbies we would’ve probably not made it more than half way. We didn’t finish it sadly, but we were a little slow haha. And right when we were getting back on track, the time ran out. Will definitely come back in the future to complete it!

I've been told by escape room enthusiasts that I absolutely need to go to this room when I visit LA. There was a lot about this room that was cool. There was some good tech, NPCs, theatrics that obviously took a lot of effort. If you're looking to be scared, and feel fairly immersed in the experience, then I'd recommend this room. That said, the puzzles were convoluted and murky. In my opinion, quality rewarding puzzles are one of the main reasons someone does an escape room. The room was also very cluttered, which makes clue gathering very difficult. Even after you've gathered everything, it's not clear what you're trying to solve. It just made for a very clunky puzzle solving experience overall. If you're a true escape room enthusiast, this wouldn't be my top recommendation.

Absolutely 100% DO NOT do the online experience. Complete SCAM. Worst escape room experience of my life. The live actor is giving you clues the entire time let alone you have to listen to her, no offense terrible winning the entire game because she's "in distress". We finished the room with 20 minutes left. Mind you 2 people out of the group of 4 did not speak 1 word because there was nothing to figure out or say. I have done over 30 escape rooms, this didn't come close. We were asked to use Google to find combinations. I was able to log into zoom through google chrome per their instructions but was unable to get any video because "its something they are working on". I did get to see the map and clues. I had to log in through the zoom app could only hear. The host was a nice person but led me to no solution and offered the owners number to call for further instruction. At this point I was over it. You're suppose to have 45 min to escape and in 25 min we were given about 8 clues asked to look up google twice and somehow managed to get the person out of the room even though she made it seem like she died. Worst. Experience. Complete joke.

This was a fun event that the staff came up with. I've returned to this escape room multiple times not just because it has multiple rooms that are all challenging and fun but because the imagination and effort that goes into the design is really top notch. I've done rooms around the country and Basement is still my favorite.

I've done two different rooms here and the amount of work they put into the detail is amazing. It's worth the extra money to know you're going to have a good experience.

A couple of tips though... don't drink a lot of fluids before going in. Since there are no bathroom breaks.

I suggest not drinking alcohol or doing any drugs that make you dumber before going in. You might end up being too stupid to solve the puzzle and make it out, which could anger other people doing the room with you.

I came with a group of six to celebrate a friend's birthday. We are a well-seasoned group of escape room enthusiasts, and were really impressed with the creativity and complexity of the obstacles we had to tackle. "The Basement". also included a live actor who was excellent. I gihly recommend The Basement for a group of about 6 - It requires people to split up, explore, and then collaborate effectively to make it out. And we did! It was one of the best escape rooms I have experienced.

"The Elevator Shaft" was also loads of fun. The six of us had to battle occasional flooding waters, steam blasts, smoke, and get a bit physical to solve this puzzle. I'd recommend 3-4 as an ideal number for this room.

It was a great afternoon of fun, and I hope to come back to try the other two rooms!

The Basement is one of my very favorite escape rooms! Their dedication to immersion, atmosphere, and production value is easily matched by wicked puzzles that are immensely satisfying to solve. Without giving anything away, I will point out that their technical know-how is put to good use, creating an escape room that feels like a living, breathing place, instead of a stage with props that many rooms are. I've only done the larger (10 person) room, but I went back again because the first time we didn't escape. I can't wait to try their other rooms, too!

The quality of the rooms is very high, and all four rooms are unique. Difficulty is above-average, making these engaging even for experienced players. We interested with at least 7 staff members when we were there and every single one of them was enthusiastic and engaging. Highly recommend these rooms. They have punch cards now for prizes.

I'm very fond of The Elevator Shaft. The entire experience is honestly quite incredible. The staff is friendly and spooky all at once. They all love their job and make the experience great. The production value and strategy required to escape are inventive and just so much fun. One of my favorite rooms in California.

I celebrated my 31st birthday here with 9 of my closest friends. I had never done an escape room before but a few of my friends had. The basement exceeded all of my expectations and I am surely to return to try the rest of their rooms. The decor, acting and difficultly in puzzles was up to par. The basement has a 12% escape rate and if we had just 4 minutes longer we def would have escaped. Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience. Just a suggestion, the more people in the room the tougher it is to keep an eye on clues etc. I'd suggest 5 people would be good.

ENJOY!!!!

Game was a good intro to the story. The game moves fast due to it being 45 min. I did like the actor that was in it, he made the experience more fun and interesting. It was not as scary as I thought it would be. The puzzles were not as difficult but were a lot to do in such little time. If we had one more person, maybe it would have gone more quickly. All in all It was a good and exciting experience. The Gamemasters were cute in trying to do a cute new introduction for us. We appreciated it and they were also very nice. I am excited to try the last two rooms.
