Neighborhood: Hollywood
Hollywood undoubtedly conjures up images of movie stars and high-end lifestyles, and to this day, tourists flock here from around the world to see the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and to catch a glimpse of the famed Hollywood sign up close. Celebrity impersonators and crowds give these areas the feeling of an amusement park while many clubs and hotels fill up around the weekends for late-night partying - the Hollywood club scene is a haven for thumping music and table-side bottle service. But parties aren’t the only way to enjoy this area, many visitors come to the neighborhood to sit back with a picnic to watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and those looking to stay fit trek along nature trails in the Hollywood hills and in Griffith Park.

We were there for about an hour on a rainy day. It was quite busy for mid afternoon. Many vinyl records, CDs, DVDs new and preowned. Tshirts, posters and books are upstairs available for purchase. The store covers the whole corner of the block. Parking is available next door and Amoeba will validate your parking pass. You can also park on the street at the meters. The store is near the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I am now wishing I had bought some CDs I found as they are rare and cost more online. I will return. If you love music, go there!

This was my second visit. A must for music lovers. There is so much to see and so little time! I recommend. Park in the ramp next door and get your receipt validated for 90 minute parking. It is convenient. I bought 2 CDs. I forgot to look for the painted mural near the stage. Next time !

You can't find a music store like this anywhere in the country. Reminded me of my record stores in the early 80s but on a mega scale. This place has it all and is heaven on earth if you are a music lover. Every genre represented. Vinyl, CDs, T-shirts, books and posters.

Amoeba Music on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood is the best music store on the planet. There is just no questions about this. It is beautiful, the location is great, the staff knows more about music than you and they have concerts--free concerts.

You walk in and you can smell the vinyl. They have everything you could ever want and it they don't they will get it for you. They have CDs, DVD, Tees, Posters, memorabilia and the largest selection of music, new and used, I have ever seen. If they don't have it or can't get it, well, it does not exist.

You ask for help and there is someone there and you think you know all about the artist you seek. You are shocked that you don't. The assistant is a musical encyclopedia and he does not need to look it up on You Tube. They just know. Their prices are great, especially for used CDs and some vinyl.

On top of this, the place is just a cool place to hang out. You will hear new music from their great speakers and you can talk to other record nuts like yourself.

If that is not enough, they have free concerts. They recently had Mike Shinoda. and if don't know who that is, I pity you. He played for free to about 500 screaming, eager, happy fans. The place does not hold a ton of people so check their site to see the band you want and get there early. The sound system is amazing. The artists that have passed through these doors to entertain us is remarkable.

You have to go there. You really do. It is a pilgrimage for many.

The Hollywood Sign hike is just okay. What you really need to experience is some of the great things in the city. I always go to Amoeba Records, which has like 1,000,000 cds and vinyls. Be sure to also go for their in-store appearances. For example, next wednesday a band I saw on Conan, the Belle Brigade is doing a free performance that I'd be dying to check out http://tinyurl.com/3bp2fyd

Amoeba Records in Hollywood isn’t a place to make a quick stop. It is paradise for audiophiles. They have pretty much anything you’re looking for and things you might not have known even existed. Every time I travel to LA, I make sure I spend at least an hour there, longer if time allows. I have never and will never leave there empty handed. They are truly the best record store in the country for both new and used. Great T-shirts, books and DVDs too. Don’t miss it the next time you visit.

This is a classic, huge music store and purely awesome if you still love and buy music. The choices are endless. Vinyl, CD's, tee's, buttons etc. but most importantly it's the selection that's special. They do trade ins on vinyl and cd's so you never know what you're going to find. Everything is nicely categorized and easy to find. If you can't find what you're searching for, there are plenty of sales associates to assist you.

"Summer has come & pass, The innocent can never last, Wake me up when September ends." Green Day's melancholy song was playing on loop as my tribe of three made their way from sleepy So. Cal suburbia to the rush of Hollywood in the hopes of finding musical memories. Lyrics are more than siren calls to emotion they have the power to heal & connect. Amoeba Music is the sanctuary, Coltrane, Cash & Jim Croce are the medicine men. Carole King, Patsy Cline & Safe are the muses. There are no musical limitations found here. Let your inhibitions meltaway & linger for a while surrounded by other travelers searching for that forgotten tune. Oh the delight, the wonderful moment when you find that album that fed your spirit so many years ago, only for your offspring to fall deeply in love with it too. Thank you Amoeba!
