I am a resident Angeleno, and I had never before explored the downtown area. So when I researched online for a tour to go on and came across Free (read that again, FREE) L.A. Tours, I thought it was too good to be true. After an incomparably enjoyable and educational experience, I am delighted to report that it is not only absolutely too good, but also most fortunately true.
My tour guide Rob was enthusiastic, informative, and funny. His voice sounded like Charlie Day's from "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia." Whenever I asked him to speak up due to city noise and traffic (welcome to L.A., or ANY OTHER METROPOLITAN AREA EVER), he not only immediately and enthusiastically obliged, but smoothed over the potential awkwardness with a biting and perfectly timed joke. If this man isn't on a sitcom in the next few years, it would be criminal.
In short: incredibly instructive and entertaining, truly unparalleled for a free tour. The suggested contribution of $10 is a pittance compared to the knowledge gained and the experience had. I actually ended up giving $20. Would highly recommend to both visitors and long-time residents.
