About
The Federal NoHo, founded by Knitting Factory Entertainment in 2011, occupies one of the oldest existing buildings in the San Fernando Valley. The Federal produces gourmet fare served in a casual, relaxed atmosphere with 20 craft beers on tap, some of the finest bourbons & scotches and an eclectic wine list. The Federal unites modern-day styling with a nod to the building's origins as a 1920's bank. On the ground floor are two distinct contemporary yet traditional bars, each with its own style and charm featuring resurfaced brick walls, period furniture with modern style, opulent wood floors, intimate booths, cushioned leather chairs and flat screen TVs. The second floor holds the Upstairs at The Federal, our events space with full production capabilities, cathedral ceilings and full bar. As well at the Salon, The Federal's exclusive speakeasy. The Federal builds on an historic legacy in the rapidly diversifying North Hollywood neighborhood.

Great dinner with a couple of colleagues in this cool place. Very nice atmosphere. Service was awesome (Magenta). Food was good. Prices fair. Not a huge menu. Definitely recommend if you are in the area.

It was an accident that we ate here. We only parked on the side of the street of this restaurant and were going to go across the street until we smelled something grilled and thought it was coming from here so we thought we’d give it a try. It was the first time here but not the last. We were here on their Build Your Own Grilled Cheese night. You have a choice of protein of either avocado, sliced chicken, vegan chili, bacon or short ribs. Next we’re extras, two choices of either tomato, basil, jalapeño, crispy onions, arugula, Pico de Gallo, blue cheese crumbles, garlic chips, wing sauce and balsamic onion. It was all served on thick slices of house baked artisan white bread. The cheeses that came on the sandwich were aged cheddar, havarti, and Swiss. I chose the short ribs with crispy onions and basil leaves. You could tell it was grilled in butter. It was fantastic but although the sandwich looked stuffed with the short ribs and cheese, the meat was shoved to the front of the bread to make it look fuller than it actually was. Also when you think of a grilled cheese sandwich, you think of the cheese oozing out in gooey goodness. This didn’t ooze as much as I would have liked. Our friend who was with us and has been here before said their burgers were fabulous. Can’t wait to come back here and try something else.

Are used to come here for lunch with my coworkers after our graduation for a celebration. Period. Lately I’ve been coming on Friday nights, they have great music and strong drinks. The music on Friday nights is reggae in the back and 90s R&B and hip hop to today’s hits. Love this spot! A local gem.

First night in N. Hollywood staying at a nearby Holiday Inn Express. Needed somewhere local with good eats and decent beer. Wasn't sure how far it was to walk so took the car and were able to park on one of the side streets. Despite being busy (several large groups) the service was fast and friendly. The Beer selection was good and the food hot and tasty. Mini Blue cheese sliders were a favorite. Most entrees over $10. Would visit again .

Visited on a Monday evening, it was Mac and cheese Monday. Fantastic. The Mac and cheese is outrageously good. I had mine with beef, mushrooms and marinara sauce. Great craft beer on tap very reasonable prices, fast, friendly service.

Nice looking place with a good vibe. Room in the back appeared to have live music, but since we were there to converse, opted for a table in the front room. Not a great first impression to have one hostess chewing either gum or food (open-mouthed) while trying to seat patrons. Thankfully, the other gal helped us to our table. Our order was taken quickly - we both opted for the brunch special: bottomless "Mimosa", breakfast entree and choice of coffee, tea or soft drink for $25.

We both chose the Crab Benedict, which arrived soon enough and was still steaming! Served with a side of home fries, this was a good amount of food. Eggs were perfectly cooked, hollandaise flavor nicely balanced. The mimosas were a diluted disappointment, though. Not sure about the ratio used, but not enough orange juice nor enough prosecco/champagne. Not sure what else was in the mix (water? club soda?) but it wasn't really a solid drink.

They have a 2-hour time limit for brunch which was apparent when the check was delivered about 1.5 hours in to our visit. It was also at that time that the mimosas stopped being refilled and our server basically disappeared. At one point, I had to get our water refilled myself at the nearest server station.

All in all, felt the food was good, value on the "special" was decent even though the mimosas were weak. But the service was subpar.

My friends and I had gone to see Avenue Q which meant getting out of the theater around 930pm. Not knowing the Arts District of North Hollywood all that well, we decided to make a reservation here so we definitely had a place to grab a bite after the show. They were totally fine with us being 20 minutes late for our reservation (which I recommend making, even at a late time on a Saturday night) and seated us right away. Our server was very attentive and provided really good service! The food, which I would describe as bar food plus, was really tasty and had a few interesting combos that we did not try. The pretzel was my favorite (though I’m a sucker for a hot soft pretzel), our friends started with the street corn and avocado toast and the artichoke, which they devoured. Our main dishes were 2 burgers, kale and quinoa salad, and chicken parmigiana, as I said, bar food plus. Everything we had was delicious! They have an extensive beer menu and a good cocktail/wine list. We did not check out the entire place, but it felt like we were in a different city. It was a great mix of people, not a “bro” bar, and everyone just seemed out to have a good time. Definitely a place I would go back to!

They have some nice drinks on their signature menu. I didn't have any food, just drinks. The signature drinks were good. The rail drinks were pricey. Overall this is a nice place.

A very popular watering hole with great cocktails and a changing schedule of live performances that can get really loud with big groups. So if you want some drinks and conversation you may need to up your volume enough to get through happy hour.

The Fed salad with grilled chicken on it was very good. The chicken sandwich had pretty overcooked tough chicken. Overall, a pretty good option for slightly-better-than-normal bar food in the neighborhood.
