We got lucky - turned up on the off chance we could take the 10:00 tour. There was no one else booked in but they welcomed us, were super friendly and took me and my 80 year old dad for two hours in and around LA. So much information delivered in a witty and accessible way. Saw things we would never see without a guide. Great to have the earphones- could hear every word. Loved, loved, loved this. My dad initially wasn’t super keen on the idea but cannot stop raving. There were loads of stars and history he recognised. It’s not just for the young. They dropped us right back to our hotel after some great lunch and martini recommendations. Steven seems to know everything about this town and Danny was a brilliant driver. Cannot recommend more highly

I literally just got off the tour bus. We took a 2 and one half hour tour of Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Our driver knew more than TMZ and E Entertainment combined, including todays most up to date news. Derek loves this job....he knows every home, restaurant, nightclub and car that the Celebrities own, visit and drive. Well in advance of the upcoming estate he would say look in the driveway if the red mercedes is in the drive Dr. Phil is home Watch for Tom Cruise on his red motorcycle, Katy Perry drives her own black mercedes sedan. Today we spotted Ryan Adams in his black porsche, quite the thrill for us mere mortals especially my 15 years old daughter. This is more than a tour it's like you came to Los Angeles to visit your family and they took you out to show you EVERYTHING in the town. If you come to LA and want to see how the rich and famous really live don't go out with anyone else. There vehicles get right up to the Hollywood Sign and into the neighborhoods of the multi-million dollar homes. Watching E will never be the same.

Thanks for the feedback, Judy! Many of our guests tell us that their favorite part of the tours are looking for celebrities as they pass in their cars. Our drivers are very observant, and know the make and models of many cars driven by famous celebrities, so chances are you won't miss anyone who happens to drive by during your tour. We hope you will come back someday soon and take another tour with us!

I feel like I payed a lot to see gates of celebrities, I believe that this was because of the academy awards and I should have been told in advance that I would not see rodeo drive or the sunset strip due to roads being closed. We did not stop for pictures at all. That being said I think out driver tried to do what he could. But I pay $170. For 4 of us and $10. To park and each of us gave the recommended $10 dollars a person tip to our driver so I payed $220. To see gates and the valley. Just disappointed I was expecting more and thought there would be photo opps

Kathleen, thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience. THE OSCARS yes they are difficult for a couple days. A city of sorts is built around The Dolby and street closures run for long distances. It is difficult to maneuver for sure, having said that the city is full of celebrities and our spotting of them is always at the high for the year. There are events around the city that disrupt traffic flow, however again you can walk through the area where they are setting up for the Oscars, down the red carpet and a comprehensive feel for what the Academy Award Ceremony is all about. Its an interesting and special time but does restrict areas we are available to travel. Sorry you missed out on some things and were sorry the Academy Awards experience didn't make up for that.

We had been looking forward to taking this trip for a long time now. Saw the good ratings, and were really excited. The trip was really fun, all the sights and stories. After the trip the chaffeur came to us and asked if we enjoyed the ride. We said "very much so", and he gave us a wierd look and said "didnt seem like it", referring to our tipping policy. This made us feel mocked.

We have been saving up for about two months for the trip. I believe it is highly unprofessional, morally and business-wise, to ridicule and humiliate us for not giving more tip. We gave all we had and all we could afford, about 10%. After a nice ride, all the memories and expectations were changed like that. This felt terrible, humiliating and insulting all at once. I have never witness such unprofessionalism from a highly rated team in my life.

We had high expectations from this company as many of the reviews were great, however this couldn't be further from the truth.

Our driver Richard, swerved across the narrow, winding and precarious streets of the Hollywood Hills USING HIS PHONE, texting and tapping while driving.

The duration of the tour was 15 minutes less than the advertised "2 hours" and we were definitely not shown the "over 50 celebrity houses" as written on the sites description.

Being our first day in the U.S we were uninformed about the tipping system and were under the impression that tipping was only necessary in the hospitality industry, we did not realise we needed to tip the guide. As we made our way off the bus and waited for our Uber, the tour guide came to approach us, condescendingly and sarcastically telling us we better be tipping people during our trip, trying to force guilt on us for not doing something we didn't even know was necessary - had he simply told us that this was necessary this wouldn't have been a problem, but instead decided to be completely obnoxious about it.

In conclusion our experience with Ultimate Hollywood Tours was unsafe and rude, the driver was careless and after being paid $85 to drive around and point at houses, got angry at us for being unaware we had to tip him.

I am truly baffled by all of the wonderful reviews this tour received. My brother, sister-in-law, and I took this tour yesterday and not only was our tour guide quite monotone and seemingly disengaged (he has also allegedly been giving the tours for nine years but still fails to tell riders the direction of the site which he is describing) but the sites weren't SEEN. Most of the tour involves driving by celebrities' homes but all you can see are their gates and the occasional roof. I certainly understand why this is the case but I don't understand why an hour and a half is spent seeing gates only -- the waste of time on this tour was almost more painful than the waste of money!

It was hard to get pictures of anything, hard to see much, hard to know what the tour guide was actually referring to (if there are five white houses surrounding the bus even a "that one on the right" would be helpful), and hard to digest that we spent two hours and $40 to see very little.

Trip Advisor requires you to give at least one star but I guess I can justify it because the fairly convenient parking and the friendliness of the guy who helped us while boarding.

Emily, let me respond by acknowledging that you took the time to give your opinion on a tour that you took with our company. I could not locate any information regarding your having been on the tour but I did send an email to your trip advisor address hoping for a response which I never received. I was trying to determine which tour guide you might have traveled with in June. Based entirely on the 9 years as a tour guide I have settled in on Bill as the tour guide on your van. Bill has been a tour guide for almost 10 years and is an excellent guide. Everyone has their own opinion of what type tour they have just taken and from your comments it is obvious that you did not care for yours. I can only say that we all have off days and perhaps this was one for Bill. But I also have to speak in defense of the other trip advisor/bookeo reviewers that you challenged in your title "Proof that good reviews can't always be trusted" that over the past 12 months Bill has received over two hundred 5 Star Reviews and one (yours) 1 Star Review. I think those number speak for themselves. We do appreciate the nice comments about the church parking and our staff on the street.

After reading the reviews we hunted out this tour on Sunset - passing up on several offers. In short - only stopped at Hollywood sign look out - and although driving through Beverly Hills - hardly saw any of the homes mentioned in the description. When I discovered we were near the end of the tour, I asked about just some of the homes we never saw - was told that was why he asked at the beginning of the tour who our favourite stars were. He was not happy I'd asked. I explained I expected to see at least the ones they listed on their advert. Saw homes of producers and book writers I'd never heard of. Expensive tour - waste of money. Go with someone else - I will next time I'm in Hollywood.

We certainly have dozens of photos of our vehicle on trip advisor I'm surprised you didn't see any of them. You would have noticed there were no "roll up" windows either then or when you arrived for the tour. As far as cold we provide blankets, but they have been stowed for some time now as California has been enduring record heat! Thanks for your effort competitor!!!

We read reviews of companies that inflate their excellent reviews somehow and I can’t stop to think that this company might be one of them. How they earned a certificate of excellence I really can’t gasp. We booked the Hollywood stars tour as after reading the reviews on TripAdvisor this seemed like the obvious choice. We toured the USA for 4 weeks and this was the worst company we used in the 4 weeks. The truck that we travelled in was very old and shaking all the way. Then the guide had problems with the PA system, close on the whole trip. It was super annoying. He kept on excusing himself and then later started to put the blame on the tour group and asked numerous times if someone had something on that could interfere. We are all tourists, so yes we do have cameras, cell phones and go pros. The truck inside looked extremely untidy. The tour was bland and it felt like a hit and run situation. Rather go for the tour operators with the TV screens to you show more info on the houses. On a few occasions this guy googled on his phone at some of the places to give us a better understanding. How unprofessional! I won’t recommend this company and again how they got a certificate of excellence is a mystery to us, as we highly rely on these recommendations to make a choice. Another aspect that annoyed us was the extra added, very high asked tip. Our Rand/dollar is extremely unfavourable as it is and for us this was an expensive trip. Add the tip and it makes it not worthwhile. Why can’t companies just pay their employees well? Don’t waste valuable tourist time on this tour company. We saw very nice tour trucks that were way better equipped, much more advanced and newer for more or less the same price. I have been with TripAdvisor since 2009 and this was our first very big mistake going solely on the recommendations. Depressing pick –up location and reception.

Dear 777SouthAfrica I have read your review several times and I have decided to read the two other 1 Star reviews we have received in the past two years. After completing that reading I am going to read several thousand of the 5 Star reviews we received during that same time, when I finish that reading I will get a long detailed response back to you.
