Made the trip to visit the lake after reading reviews and it being listed as a ‘must see’ in the L.A. area, unfortunately I was very disappointed. Not sure if I went on a bad day or if it’s extremely overrated?

The lake is small and surrounded by encampments of homeless people, some heckling visitors as well as a lot of small vendors selling fruit and various goods. It’s really unkempt with excess trash and belongings of the homeless scattering the park.

Parking is scarce and because of the poorly kept grounds I didn’t even bother trying to hire the overpriced swan peddle boats.

Some nice views of DTLA but I wouldn’t rate it as being one of the nicest places in LA! If you’ve got to tackle the traffic to visit the lake, or if it’s out of your way, I wouldn’t bother.

This is an excellent place to view homeless camps and wondering souls. Dirty water with people happily fishing in it and restrooms you can smell from 20 feet away. The people with homes across the street must be overwhelmed with joy at the obvious loss of property values. 🙂

Popped by this lovely little park on our way out of LA, after a Dodgers game. We walked around the lake. Although it was a Monday morning, it was heavily used - great to see all ages enjoying the park - sharing a coffee while talking & walking. We read about the park, lake & community’s history. So glad we were able to enjoy b4 we left town

I wouldn't recommend coming here if you care for your health and the health of your family.

I visited for the 43rd annual Lotus Festival.

The festival was was disappointing to say the least, but the smell was unbearable!

The smell was a combination of human and bird feces with a hint of urine and street side hotdogs.

The city needs to clean this park up before it becomes a public hazard.

I wouldn't recommend coming here unless the city fixes the water and waste issue.

We went on a Saturday morning. Walked around the lake, which is about a 20 minute walk. Lots of people jogging, walking dogs. The swan paddle boats are here. It is a lovely park in the middle of the city. We found a parking spot on the street.

Awesome neighborhood to explore! The lake is beautiful - short but fun walk around the whole thing. The houses on Carroll Ave are incredible. Check out the Time Travel Mart nearby on Sunset!

It’s a typical neighborhood park with a few great bonuses. There’s food carts and swan boat rentals. There was some unhoused people in the area but they were minding their business. The swan boat staff was kind and helpful. If you are fearful this is not for you. However, there was plenty of people there with their families enjoying themselves. The swan boats at night was amazing.

This place may be the nicest place in LA at the moment because most of LA has become a 3rd world toilet. It's like visiting Biff's Pleasure Palace from back to the future 2 except dirtier and more dangerous. Imagine a homeless garbage dump littered with human waste, needles and dangerous bottom feeding humans with the backdrop of downtown LA. Don't bring your children here. It's not safe to visit and it's not worth your time. The only people that would rate this place 5 stars are the local hipsters and activists encouraging the homeless to live here and the vagrants themselves who want a cardboard box with a view to get high in.

Los Angeles is not a city made for pedestrians. When I moved here I thought to myself people are lazy. They drive around and get stuck in traffic. They suck. Little Parisian fought hard and walked walked walked everywhere I could. And honestly I have walked through pretty dull and boring suburban parts of the city: mini malls and gas stations everywhere and not much to entertain the eyes in between.
That is until I moved to Echo Park. And now I walk all over and feel happier. My dear readers, please don't expect the experience to be anywhere near a stroll down the streets of London or magnificent Paris. Expect palm trees and Billboards!
Head to the Park! Enjoy the great renovation work they've done there. You can even take a ride an a paddle boat. Such a corny 1950 date! Water lilies, when in season, will make you travel to the other end of the world. On the week-ends latino street vendors will make sure you have plenty to drink and snack on. The churros lady and her husband with their antic machine have the key to my stomach. Fruit vendors are there too but my tummy likes carbs...
From the park you can walk to restaurants, music venues, bars and stores (gentrification happening full gear so hipster shopping in motion). Walk around Echo Park. Walk. Walk. Walk. Because humans need to do it. Because we need a village. Because you need to relax.
Visitors of the city can push the walk and go to Angelino Heights to check out the beautiful Victorian mansions on Carroll Ave. Or, they can head to Elysian park and the Dodgers stadium and make it a day trip with a baseball extravaganza in the late afternoon.
Spend a day in Echo Park. Move to Echo Park. Visit Echo Park.
Just do.

Overrun with homeless tents that run along the whole walking path. I see some people still walking around and doing the paddle boats but why risk going to a park where the homeless outnumber you by 10:1
