Neighborhood: Downtown
Downtown Los Angeles is a busy metropolis of towering buildings, bustling streets, and industrial warehouses. There is a distinct multiplicity of cultures here with a growing influx of business professionals and hipsters. Many call the evolution of Downtown over recent years gentrification. New lofts, bars, hotels and restaurants are popping up regularly. Downtown is home to some of the very best restaurants in the city leading the LA foodie scene, plus it is the location of cultural and sports venues including the Walt Disney Concert Hall, the Staples Center, and the Coliseum at the University of Southern California.

    Beautiful concert hall
We took a self-guided tour of this beautiful concert hall. You can scan the audio tour, narrated by John Lithgow, on your phone. It takes about an hour and there were docents posted throughout the concert hall to guide you around. The only disappointment to us is we were not allowed to look into the actual concert hall. Still, the tour is very interesting. There is a nice gift shop and restrooms.

Glad we got to go by
I love the swirling shapes of his buildings here, Paris, MPLs. I saw this one in daylight as well as after dark. It did not gleam and reflect as much as expected. I was told it had originally but after the reflection affected nearby apartment buildings, the metallic finish had to be darkened and dulled a bit.

    Architectural Monument
This building is an architectural monument. Spending time by observing the curves of the exterior walls is something not to miss in Los Angeles. Superb acoustic design of the interior is worth mentioning. I love it. Visit the shop and see the high quality miscellaneous objects to buy.

This is a music center offering musical concerts. However I visited this on New Year's Day and one can roam around the outside of this multi-faceted building by following one of several staircases leading up off the street. It is possible to get pretty high up and get some great photos from above. There is even a lovely garden about midway up where one can rest and enjoy a respitfrom the noise of the streets below.

Comfortable, cushioned seats with an incredible amount of leg room makes this a perfect location for a concert with great views for everyone! The Gift Shop is extraordinary. Watching Gustavo Dudamel conduct the talented LA Philharmonic....priceless!!! Thank you!!

We took the docent tour on a Saturday that included the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion which I enjoyed as much as the Concert Hall. I would highly recommend going with a docent on the 90 minute tour as they can provide so much more access and information than doing it on your own. And it was free!

Slightly underwhelming. While a fantastic architectural masterpiece from the outside there is not much to see on the inside. There is a free tour that takes you through the building but unless you’re really into architecture it is quite boring and not worth spending time doing. Unless you’re there for a show you can’t actually get access to the main auditorium. The building is beautiful so worth stopping for a photo on the outside. Also if you do spend time there then you can validate parking at a cheaper price which is handy for downtown LA

Disney Hall is superb in just about every way. The hall's famous architecture is stunning inside and out, and the resident LA Phil is truly a world-class orchestra. With excellent acoustics throughout the hall, there really isn't a bad seat from a sound standpoint; it really comes down to your viewing preference and budget. My favorite seats are in Orchestra East, where there is a great view of both the orchestra and conductor.

Parking is cheap and easy in the hall's garage, and there is usually less traffic at the Lower Grand Ave entrance. It's also a short walk to the Civic Center Metro station at 1st and Hill. LA Phil performances seem to always start 5-7 minutes late, but do plan on arriving early to walk from the garage and find your seat. In addition to a very pricey cafe, you can also check out the cool gardens and gift shop while you're there.

We were able to get last-minute orchestra-section tickets to a concert by Yuja Wang. Needless to say, it was an amazing experience, both because of the artistry of Ms. Wang, and the acoustics of the hall. Be sure to explore the lovely little 3rd-floor park, with the huge marble lotus flower.

I highly recommend the self-guided audio tour of the concert hall. Don’t forget to bring your earphones! My favorite parts include the garden (so peaceful and leafy) and the rooftop (you can see what’s behind the curved walls). Everyone who works here is super helpful, especially the lady who guarded the entrance to the garden on June 20, 2022. She helped us navigate the place and explained about some of the rooms we couldn’t access because they were locked.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall is located in the middle of Downtown Los Angeles. Parking is for a fee in several lots nearby.

The hall was designed by Frank Gehry, a famous architect known for his buildings that have a lot of steel and some of it bends. I am not a fan, but it is a place to see. Some find it stunning and you might as well. I find it busy.

The interior is lovely with comfortable seating. It is kept clean and the bathrooms are well maintained.

The sound of the hall is wonderful. For the most part classical music is played there by the Phil and others. They also have chamber music and jazz now and again. What I love is their organ. It is beautiful and the best sound you will hear out of any organ. It has huge pipes and was designed for this building.

We saw an organ player there and it was quite magical.

There is food nearby. I do not know if their eatery is open, as it was closed last time we were there. But there are good places to eat near by. You can call them and see if they have any dinner options available. If not, call Kendall's which is a very short walk right on Grand Ave. You can see it from one part of the hall.

It is something you want to go to at least once. It is special.

Seeing Disney Hall was a priority for us when we visited LA, and it did not disappoint. It's a spectacular Frank Gehry building, with a concert hall that has superb acoustics. It is open to the public almost every day to come in and wander around, using their self-guided audio tours or not. There is a lovely peaceful garden off the third level if you just want to sit and veg out. We were lucky enough to get tickets to an LA Phil concert with Dudamel conducting so had the full experience.

Interesting building inside and out - sweeping curves of metal on the exterior makes for a striking aesthetic. Worth a visit and the self guided tour was informative. Shame the main hall was closed at the time of our visit.
