We had reservations to take the Took Art Deco Tour guided by a knowledgeable and pleasant guide from the Los Angeles Conservancy. The wealth of information that she exhibited on the Art Deco buildings and how she presented it kept your interest. I definitely recommend taking one of the tours from the Los Angeles Conservancy.

Took the Art Deco Tour. Wow, amazing! I have lived in LA for over 40 years and I learned quite a bit. Great to go inside some buildings I have driven past a million times and learn about them. Very reasonably priced for length of tour, knowledge of guide, and amount of information. Very well put together. We can't wait to take another tour! thanks to the LA Conservancy for preserving our heritage.

Americans do love their cities. I google searched and came across this tour before I left. For $25USD it was worth every cent. The tour was the perfect amount of time. The tour guide was excellent. I learnt history about buildings that I would have never known about. Think 'Ghostbusters' scenes, cars coming out of buildings and why things look like the Spanish steps in L.A. The enthusiasm and history and ability to tell a story was epic. Next time I'm in LA i'll be going to some of their other walking tours.

I recently took the historic downtown tour and, unfortunately, found it to be somewhat lacking. The information provided was quite shallow, and there was no clear thread connecting the various sites and stories. The narratives often felt disjointed and weren't well integrated into their historical contexts. The library stood out as a centerpiece of the organization’s efforts, and this was very evident throughout the tour. The guide was friendly and engaging, but overall, the tour lacked the depth and cohesiveness I was hoping for. If you're looking for a comprehensive and informative experience, this tour might not be the best choice.

The Conservancy offers a variety of historical DTLA Tours, and I have been on 3 separate ones. Not only do they provide accurate and in-depth historical background and ancedotes, but they also got us into restricted access locations that we could not have visited on our own. They do not object to photography as long as it is not forbidden by the venues being visted. There is small per person fee for the tour, and last I checked you have to spring $10 for parking. After you finish, you can get more value for your parking by checking out attactions like the Grand Central Market or Angel's Flight.

A rare offering as most of the other tours run on Saturdays, this is unique in that it focuses on one site, the beautiful Biltmore Hotel. You will gain access to certain areas not accessible to the general public but the highlight is, as always, the guide. You can’t believe the Conservancy guides are all volunteers. They do an absolutely fabulous job. It’s not just facts but the way things are explained. A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I have done two LA Conservancy walking tours: Historic Downtown, and Angelino Heights. Cannot recommend them highly enough for visitors or locals alike.
The docents are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and make LA
's downtown and near-downtown history come alive. All for $10 a person - unbelievable value.
Go! You won't be disappointed, and it just proves that contrary to belief in some quarters there is indeed, a "there" there. Right there in LA !

What a great way to spend 2 1/2 hours on a Saturday morning. I grew up in LA but never had a clue to the history of the buildings downtown. The interiors that you see, including the Central Library, Bradbury Building, and art deco Water and Power Building are just stunning. We finished in Central Market where we grabbed a quick lunch before riding up Angles Flight. Returning to Pershing Square we detoured through the Biltmore Hotel lobby and enjoyed the historical Academy Awards pictures. The Conservancy offers other tours such as theater, library, and Biltmore, which I imagine would be just as great. Whether you are a visitor or local, for $10 this tour is a steal.

Over the past few years, I've attended about 5 of the LA Conservancy's walking tours, including the Modern Skyline tour, the Historic Downtown tour, the Union Station tour, and a special underground Downtown tour which my friend got me into through her Conservancy membership. The tours are affordable, convenient, and exactly what you hope they will be, and the tour guides are all terrific. The tours all live up to their billings. Plus, you get your steps in while walking through Downtown LA. Additionally, the LA Conservancy performs important historical preservation work, and your support helps them continue their work. The tours guides all seem very personally invested in the Conservancy's mission, which makes them passionate, well-informed presenters. LA Conservancy tours are great for both LA locals and tourists. Don't miss out!!

I did the historical tour of downtown LA, and it was really interesting. The guide was well versed, and highlighted buildings I may not have noticed, especially taking us inside some of the most interesting ones. I'd highly recommend taking them.

Can you recommend the easiest places to park for a Saturday art deco tour?
Written May 6, 2019
Pershing Square tends to be costly, as do the ramps that are close to it. on Saturdays, if you're willing to park a few blocks from Pershing Square, you can park at certain lots for cheap or even free. you can look on Yelp for suggestions.
But if there's some huge event enveloping the city, take a Lyft downtown.

How do I book a walking tour of the Art Decor architecture? We will be staying in Santa Monica from October 6th to 9th 2018. Thanks.
Written July 18, 2018
Go to the LA Conservancy website and go to tours; here you will be able to read up on all the tours and book. You do not need to be a member. Most , if not all the tours start at Pershing Square Downtown, but fon’t Just show up there without a reservation as they are usually full and don’t take walk ups. Across the street is the classic Biltmore Hotel which is s great place for a wander, a drink or high tea! Enjoy!
