We had never been to Los Angeles before, wanted in-site to the best places to visit and things to see and do, but dislike the cliche tour buses, so we decided to hire Anne after exchanging e-mails and reading reviews, it seemed like the perfect option for us.
Anne picked us up promptly at our hotel as arranged, and took us around L.A. She customized the tour based on our likes/dislikes, requests, and suitability and and other criteria.
She was a fabulous tour guide, very kind, and seemed genuinely interested in us. Even when our teenager got car sick, she made an effort to make her feel as comfortable as possible.
The sun was out, so when we stopped to get out of the car for an attraction, she offered me a hat. so sweet. A cooler of cold water or beverages would have been a nice added touch. However, perhaps she only offers that in the hot summer months.
We toured places that the big tour buses were not allowed to go, and took us secret ways to see different types of attractions, etc., took us to a popular, fabulous lunch place, and offered to stop or take pictures of us when we requested it.
I would recommend Anne if you want a more personal tour experience. If you just want to see the most popular sites LA. has to offer, may as well hop on and off the tour buses.
Anne is a wonderful lady, good at what she does, and makes you feel welcome and comfortable.
We all enjoyed it.

First of all, how can you NOT love the name of this private tour company?! I was drawn to it instantly when trying to decide how best to "do LA" for the first time with my wife and 14-year-old son as part of a weeklong trip to Southern California from Rochester, NY. So much to do, so little time...and no desire to navigate LA in a rental car or, worse yet, on a packed tour bus!
As the saying goes, Anne Block (the owner/operator/ and our private guide) "had us at hello." I was blown away by her responsiveness to my initial email inquiry a full six months ahead of our planned trip -- and liked (and trusted) her immediately. (The trust factor was a big thing for me, for obvious reasons!) Anne answered all my questions, was open to all of my requests, and offered many wise suggestions about what was doable and what may not be in a six-hour custom tour.
Since we were staying in Anaheim (at Disneyland), we took the train into Union Station in downtown LA. When we got off the train, there she was -- in a bright red hat -- and from the moment we met Anne, my wife, son, and I liked her immediately and spent a fun-filled day together that none of us will ever forget.
In addition to the terrific sites we saw (including "must-dos" that we requested like Hollywood and Beverly Hills, and some novel sites that Anne selected that we could have never known about), a few things really stood out about our day together:
1. Anne went out of her way to make sure she exceeded our expectations.
2. Her driver (Wendy) made it easy for Anne and us to "hop out" whenever we wanted for those perfect photo ops without us worrying (and wasting time) with parking. Anne even took pictures with my camera so we'd all be in them!
3. Anne ensured that our teen-aged son felt included throughout they day -- paying particular attention to him and his interest in film, and our desire to do "a drive-by" of USC.
4. She even agreed to drive us back to Anaheim (for an agreed-upon added fee in advance) since we didn't know where we'd be when our tour ended.
5. We never once experienced one of those "this is really weird / I don't know what to talk about / I want this tour to end" moments that could easily happen when you're "trapped in a car with complete strangers in a strange city" for six hours.
Our only complaint? The day went way too quickly and we needed six days -- not six hours! -- to see/do everything we would have liked. Nonetheless, I feel like we had a "crash course" in LA, made friends along the way, and definitely got a terrific value for the money spent (which, BTW, was handled easily via credit card...another one of my concerns beforehand. I didn't want to be traveling with tons of cash in my pocket!)
I would not hesitate to call on Anne again on a return visit to LA -- and cannot recommend her highly enough. We definitely were made to feel like VIPs, and you will be too!

Anne really gave me the white glove treatment. I had some time before my conference started in LA and I wanted to see what the city had to offer. I didn't want to do a group tour and I was looking for something different. I heard about Anne through a referral and I took a chance, and she took a chance on me. What a fun afternoon of not having to think. She asked me if I was hungry {I just flew in and hadn't had lunch} so we stopped at a nice Mexican place for lunch. She made sure that we stopped for bathroom breaks as well as some caffeine when she saw my energy slipping. She took me to the cliché places on the tour but added so much more. I loved the little touches of architecture that she would point out. Because it was just the two of us we got to know each other as well. When I returned home I had some tips for my upcoming trip to Seattle that I am going on this week. So very thoughtful!
I am usually the planner and this was so nice to not have to think...she picked me up and dropped me off and made sure that I was taken care of.

Our family of five had been to Los Angeles before, but our experience was never like this one! Rather than the impersonal and generic bus tour, Anne took us on an "up close and personal" tour of the city and its surrounding areas. She responded to the requests of our teenage children by showing us the homes of some of the newer Hollywood celebrities. She also helped us navigate through Venice, UCLA, and the beautiful neighborhoods up in the canyons. Anne was friendly, knowledgeable, and flexible. What a great day!!

I have been to los angeles many times before and have done all the usual double decker bus tours etc etc so i wanted something different....along came "Take my mother please" and the fantastic Anne Block. As i was travelling alone I was a little nervous about being trapped alone in a car with a stranger, this was totally not the case as from the moment she picked me up it was like we were old friends. Anne constructs all her tours to suit the client so two are never the same, for me it was all old hollywood, Judy Garland, architecture and above all fun, she is not only one of the nicest people I have ever met but she is funny, smart and above all informative. We were on route to westwood memorial park which I had already visited the day before no problem off we went to somewhere else, she took me to downtown LA which i had not been to before to show me some amazing buildings and I mentioned the angels flight railway so we went there too although she had already been twice that same morning. I cannot reccomend Take my mother enough, please give it a try you will love it !!

My niece Veronica and her classmate Georgina were home for Christmas break from the University of Evansville. It was Georgina's first time to California (she is from England). She is a theater major and she had a list of places she wanted to go!!! So Anne designed a tour to cover them all! I am a native Californian and knew that to see everything in the time we had, I needed Anne to be our guide! Anne is so much fun and helped us see everything on the list plus more! She knows the history of everywhere we went and stories about buildings and just about anything we saw on our route! Georgina was tickled pink and I learned alot about LA that I didn't know. Highly recommend Anne whenever you have people coming to this area - she is fantastic!

I've now toured with Anne four different times, and the theme of each one (in my mind, at least) has been that there are secrets about our town that an Anne Block tour reveals with the delight of a child on Christmas morning.
Whether it's the Watts Towers or the Bradbury Building / Grand Central Market or an architecture tour or Beverly Hills, she never fails to pick the coolest little restaurants, the neatest little spots, and the most fun stories to make the city open up its inner sanctum and welcome you in. So fun!

Last year this time Anne led a wonderful, multi-day tour of Los Angeles with a client family of mine. It was absolutley perfect for everyone, a task that's very hard to accomplish when the family consists of two 40 year-olds, a 10 year old and a 12 year old. But Anne did it! The family's time with Anne included interesting experiences as a special mystery brunch, a horseback ride and time exploring some unusual gardens. My clients are still talking about it all! Anne just has a way of sharing the world with others that's very special! Dee Hoffman

We had an amazing LA tour with Anne. It was far beyond the usual tourist sightseeing stuff. We visited the best places, tasted some great food, heard insightful stories of the landmarks we visited and the pleasure of her company. Would absolutely refer her to friends and family.

Anne was a great tour guide. Husband and I and our eight year old had a day in LA and we didn't want to take one of the big tour buses. She picked us up at our hotel promptly and we had a wonderful 3 1/2 hours with her. She was very patient with our son, who talks constantly and had lots of questions and stories to tell her. We highly recommend her.

I would like to know does Anne pick up / drop off off at my Hotel? I am travelling alone and have only the 1 day in LA, but I don't arrive until at least 9 am in the morning. Do you have day / night tours?
