One of the best places, if not the best to take a pictures of the Hollywood sign. It's a small park nestle in a residential area, thus parking can be difficult. It's also a dead end road. Thus some maneuvering is to be expected. Be patient as people just take pictures and leave.
It's easy to proceed to Santa Monica/Venice Beach from there as you will be heading in the opposite direction to the heavy traffic on Highway 1

Awesome place to see the Hollywood sign and take pictures! Lots of winding roads to get up to the park, but there is some street parking. The park itself is pretty small - really just an open grassy area with little else. Some people had dogs and others were picnicking, but it's mostly a spot in a residential neighborhood to get a great picture of the iconic Hollywood sign. Beware that cell service can be spotty up there. I took a Lyft to the park, but then lost service and I was worried about getting a ride back down. Luckily I had a nice Lyft driver who waited for me to take a few photos and then took me back down the hill.

We had taken the trek up to Griffith's Observatory first, and it was a mob scene. There was nowhere to park and as a drive by, there was little opportunity to get a good photo of the Hollywood sign. We decided to check out Lake Hollywood. Lots of windy roads to get there but well worth the trip!

Best views for the Hollywood sign. If you have kids they can play in the park. It’s so lovely there. Lots of tourists there.
But don’t make the mistake I did and park on the wrong side of the road as you will get a fine . You have to park the same direction so only right side.

Lake Hollywood Park is a beautiful park in Hollywood. Alongside this park, one will find car parking spots. A great place to view the famous Hollywood Sign. Certainly worth visiting.

The park has a gorgeous view for the HOLLYWOOD sign. You just need to be patient for the parking spot. People come, take pictures and then leave. It only took us ten minutes to mind our business here and when we walked back to our car both the cars in front and in the back of ours have changed.
Plan to stay for only fifteen minutes but you may need extra time to wait for a parking spot.

Hiking up to see the Hollywood sign turned out to be even better than I anticipated. The hills are pretty steep and the whole hike is pretty much a continuous ascend with very few flat areas. The are no signs to indicate the right way but if you keep going in the direction of the sign you won't miss it. Also there are plenty other hikers if you need a word of reassurance.
To get there, come to address 2700 Canyon Drive, Hollywood and drive through the gates into a small park, drive down as much as you can before the road closes, leave the car and head in the direction of the continuation of the road. There are not too many places to turn so just keep going on the trail. Once you get to a fork on a paved road you have two options
1.Left will lead you to the front view of the sign, although not too close it is a very nice view
2.Right will lead you much closer but from the back of the sign
But hey, why choose? Do both!
One word of caution: If you start out at the park located at the Bronson Canyon entrance (which has a free parking and a few little things for the kids) keep in mind that the park closes at dusk. So if you leave your car there it is a good idea to leave yourself enough time to come back on time.

Have been visiting LA for 20 years and tried all the usual spots (Griffith Observatory etc..) and a few less common (Hollywood Reservoir) but this was the closest and clearest view without hiking.
The park itself is nothing special. Make sure to drive or walk the road beyond the park to get even closer. Beware there is no parking beyond the park and traffic control was operating the day we visited.

A lovely dog-friendly park with the best view of the Hollywood sign. Lots of trees to shade under if you wished but it's lovely to sit and watch all the dogs playing freely. The views of the Hollywood sign are fabulous and as a tourist, you can drive (or Uber) right to the top of the road.

Parking is all along the sidewalk, there is plenty of parking spaces, because people are leaving and arriving all the time.
We parked right in front of the entrance.
Dont worry about it

At what time is it best to get a good parking spot before the crowds file in? We are going in March.
Written July 20, 2019
There is no best time anymore. There are crowds from the beginning of the day until sundown and then there is parking enforcement to clear the area. There used to be a lot more room but other park entrances were closed leaving this to be the most crowded.

How far is the hike from Lake Hollywood Park?
Written May 17, 2019
About 45 minutes, uphill and partially paved through the residential neighborhoods. 1 1/2 hours round trip at a decent pace. Bring water and use the restroom before you come as there are no facility's.

Are the views of Hollywood sign any better/closer than from Griffith Observatory?
Written May 5, 2019
Lake Hollywood gives you a much closer view.

I read a review saying they hiked here from Griffith Observatory, but I cannot find any information on this hike. How long is it, and where can I get a map of it?
Written March 28, 2019
I didn’t think this was close and the streets are very narrow and get very crowded with cars. I googled it on maps it states that they’re about 4.3 miles about and it takes an hour to walk.

Hi. How far do you have to walk from the park to get a really good photo of the sign? As in better than just snapping from the park...! Thanks!!
Written March 27, 2018
We literally walked for 20 mins (all uphill unfortunately) and anywhere there you can get clear unobstructed views of the sign and great pics.

Hi, is it possible to get to the park by public transportation? If not what postcode / street address would I need to give to uber/lyft?...also is there anywhere nearby to buy picnic items or am I best to take with me? 🙂

Just went back today and also talked to a Lyft driver. Yes it's possible to get there via Lyft - take 101 N To Barhamn, turn Rt on Lake Hollywood Drive and drive to top. Turn right at Wonder View, go 1000' to beginning of hike area. It goes in a circle so you'll end up at same place. Just note the cell signal as you're going around so you can call for a Lyft when done. Use intersection of Wonder View and Lake Hollywood way, but watch you're cell signal to be able to contact driver.

Whats the best time to arrive at the park? We will be heading to Huntington beach afterwards. Thanks.
Written July 15, 2016
The park is always open, there aren't any closed gates. so you can visit it any time of the day.
Parking may be an issue during peak hours in day time but you can find a slot little far if not close by.
