This is an education for any film and music fan interested in the messy birth of the USA entertainment industry. A well judged history of film, television, music and the often overlooked golden age of radio in Hollywood are delivered with style and wit. Unmissable.

The strip of Hollywood Blvd between Vine & Highland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Go once & you will never want to go again! Revolting. Now, the strip of Sunset between Vine & Warners old studios - 0.5 mile there & 0.5 back is a gem - the REAL history of Hollywood from the vety beginning - film - from silent... More

This was a delightful walking tour during which our guide took us on a wondrous, fascinating excursion through the last 150 years, weaving together a remarkable narrative of the dramatic events that shaped Hollywood. There is a lot to it, and it falls together in pieces which are carefully presented in a well researched and uniquely entertaining narrative, rolled out... More

This tour was fantastic! We were visiting from Florida and didn't want to do one of the tacky bus tours where you never really learn anything new. Philip was a terrific guide and you could tell that he lived in the area a long time and got to know long-term residents which is the only way he could know all... More

I have done most if not all of the Hollywood tours, and for me, this one is the best. The tour comprises Philip, armed with a book of old photos, bringing to life the yester-year of a few blocks in central Hollywood. The blocks are unassuming now but are so rich in Hollywood history it is almost unbelieveable. Philip has... More

I've been doing the tourist trail for a couple of days. Studio tour (Warner Bros) , 5 hour bus tour of Hollywood & LA etc - All good - but completely missing the amazing grounding and perspective that Philip imparts on this walking tour of no more than a half mile out then back from the meeting point. The breath... More

We wanted a tour that focused on history, a sense of place and some good story telling. Felix delivered all of these in spades! His vivid stories brought those buildings to life and put them in a perspective that we could not have gotten anywhere else. Hollywood is a Mecca for entertainers and Felix can claim a spot with the... More

We sure enjoyed our afternoon tour with Philip ... and yes, that even includes a somewhat reluctant seventeen year old who proclaimed it as "very cool" immediately afterward. The tour was an easy walk, in an area jammed with the kind of stories and multi-media history you wouldn't otherwise be aware of at first or even second glance. The information... More

My husband and I are 3rd generation native Angelenos and we enjoyed this in depth tour very much. You will be walking down a busy LA street so prepare accordingly (comfy shoes, sunscreen, etc.) but you won't actually be going terribly far. It's amazing how much history is packed in just a few blocks. I'm not a big movie industry... More

Staying in Hollywood

Neighborhood Profile
Hollywood
Hollywood undoubtedly conjures up images of movie stars and high-end lifestyles, and to this day, tourists flock here from around the world to see the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theatre and to catch a glimpse of the famed Hollywood sign up close. Celebrity impersonators and crowds give these areas the feeling of an amusement park while many clubs and hotels fill up around the weekends for late-night partying - the Hollywood club scene is a haven for thumping music and table-side bottle service. But parties aren’t the only way to enjoy this area, many visitors come to the neighborhood to sit back with a picnic to watch a performance at the Hollywood Bowl and those looking to stay fit trek along nature trails in the Hollywood hills and in Griffith Park.
