- Lady GigglemugMonrovia, California2,460 contributionsFun and gorgeous restored 1920s streetlamps!I visited back in late September as part of the #localadventurechallenge. This place is a great back drop for any kind of pics you may want to take! It’s an art installation at the LACMA museum and is accessible without actually visiting the museum itself so you don’t need a ticket. The artists collected and restored over 200 streetlamps dating back to the 1920s from LA and surrounding areas! It’s so aesthetically pleasing to walk among them! And was a great palate to practice on with my new camera too! It’s free to enter...but you’ll most likely have to pay to park. We parked on the street and put some quarters in the meter. When the museum is open again, I’d highly recommend combining the two into one visit!Visited October 2020Traveled with friendsWritten October 30, 2020
- Cynthia ACamarillo, California366 contributionsCOVID = SecurityThere were about 4 security guards at the Urban Lights watching people. You are required to wear a mask AT ALL TIMES including when you are taking photos. These guards walk back and forth on the sides of the exhibit and will go up to people and remind them to wear a mask. Also, there are now stanchions and cables around the perimeter so your photos have to be up close rather than far away to see all the lights. Not a big deal. Don’t go during the day. It’s not as cool. Go when dusk hits because that’s when the lights come on. Park across the street on the street. There’s an LA Fitness across from the Urban Lights that has 2 hour street parking. Make sure to read the restrictions. We went on a Saturday after 4 pm and didn’t have to pay the meter. With COVID the location isn’t too crowded. It definitely started to thin out when the sun set.Visited January 2021Traveled with friendsWritten January 30, 2021
- GitchSupDuluth, Minnesota1,468 contributionsFun to see in personThis is a cool installation at the LACMA and worth stopping to see, I didn't realize how different each individual light is until you see it in person. If you go at night be prepared for a LOT of people, you won't get a photo without someone in it unless you use photoshop. We stopped after our visit to the museum and with a little patients, I was able to get a relatively clean shot with just a couple of folks in it. Not sure it is worth driving out of your way to see, but if you are in the area it's a good stop.Visited May 2022Written May 30, 2022
- irsh21Los Angeles, California142 contributionsBetter at nightCool exhibit. Free to wander through and take pictures. It only takes about 15 minutes to fully walk through. Kids stood on the lamp posts and were scolded by the security guard. Lesson learned: don't climb on the posts.Visited January 2020Written January 6, 2020
- EllieSkopje, Republic of North Macedonia556 contributionsOverratedIt is worth a one time visit only. If your days and time are limited you can surely skip this one without feeling guilty that you are missing anything. It's nice, but that is about it. Not much to do, besides taking a few photos (probably all look the same) and read short info. Certainly don't even bother during the day, if you decide to give it a chance at least do it at night.Visited November 2019Written February 16, 2020
- wireless_in_CAUnited States4,829 contributionsNeat Outdoor ArtThis was located right in front of the LACMA and even though it was outdoors masks were required back In May. It was one way in and out which a security guard was quite strict on managing. There were 202 street lamps which were acquired for this collection from lamps retired from use off the streets of LA. Only the grey paint was the unifying theme otherwise the lamps were different. Will try to come back in the evening when the lamps are lit.Visited May 2021Traveled with familyWritten July 10, 2021
- Nancy ELos Angeles, California56 contributionsDAY AND NIGHT - MUST DOI'm an LA local and I never get tired of visiting this spot. If you are visiting LA, you have to stop by. It won't take more than 15 minutes to enjoy the view and snap some quick photos. Parking isn't too bad, but UBER would work best so you don't have to worry about it. TIP: Try to visit during the day and come back at night. You will be able to capture very different photos based on the time of day that you go. Lights will be turned off during the day, but the day light will be perfect for photos. Lights get turned on at sun down and that lighting will give you an even better background to your photos. HAVE FUN!Visited November 2018Traveled soloWritten November 30, 2018
- Gariyasi MMelbourne, Australia6 contributionsOne of the Hidden treasures. Its free, beautiful and different. Must visit when in LA. night is the best time for awesome photos, though you will rarely find an empty space. You can opt for this in the end of the whole day tour as it is open 24hrs. This way you save time, no need to plan and can just head off after your day's itinerary.Visited November 2019Written December 11, 2019

Very beautiful art display! I would Uber/Taxi here late at night to avoid the masses of tourists taking photos in here! Highly recommend coming to check this out!

Enjoy a late afternoon at LA County Museum of Modern Arts and stay when it gets dark to see the amazing illumination of the Urban Light.
One of my favorite places in the mid-Wilshire area to sit back, relax and truly experience modern art.
Tip: for best solo shots of urban light.... come after 10pm when the crowd dies down.
