About
Handlebar Bike Tours is based at LA's Grand Central Market, and features the neighborhoods of DTLA and the Arts District. We have a variety of bike tours all with the same formula; 2.5 hours, 6-8 miles, with a rest stop in the middle. We've designed the mostly flat bike routes, around the lowest traffic periods. Handlebar Bike Tours uses 8-speed, dutch style city bikes, that are easy to ride, and regularly replaced. Our live guides are amplified, first-aid certified, and experts in all things Los Angeles. Downtown has the most miles of protected bike lanes in the city, and our top rated bike tour is a great way to experience L.A. like a local. Come ride with us and see why Handlebar Bike Tours is DTLA's #1 bike tour operator.

Jen built a customized tour for a group event. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly, and one of the highlights of my time in LA. I would highly recommend this service for a good way to see LA. I am active but not a regular cyclist, the trip was approachable for all levels of experience.

A very pleasant bike tour with Jenna who is knowledgable, friendly and thoughtful. I’m the only one in the tour and it was nice that they still go ahead instead of cancelling the tour.

The route is well-designed, and I enjoyed the history and stories Jenna shared. I’m not a very experienced biker but I still felt safe throughout the trip as Jenna was attentive and she adjusted her pace to fit my needs.

The bike and helmet are in good condition, and the bike is easy to control. There was a bit of time that there wasn’t a bike lane, but traffic was not busy so I still felt safe.

All in all, I would highly recommend this tour for those who are interested to know more about the stories behind LA! I would have never known Union Station was the original site of the China Town! :)

Thanks, Jenna!

I loved the morning tour so much that I signed up for the afternoon one too. If you've not done down town it is a really refreshing change to the Hollywood side of town. The Arts district is amazing. Jen the guide was so helpful and knowledgable. Would highly recommend the tours.

We booked the tour online without hassle. My fiancé wasn't so sure about riding the bike in a big city, but the tour was perfect! It wasn't exhausting at all, the bikes were nice and riding super easy. Even my fiancé was convinced and wanted to book the other tour. I was happy to get out of the car, and felt bad for all those people trapped on the Hop on Hop off bus, we really got to experience the city. The guide had a lot of interesting anecdotes and was easy to understand for us non native english speakers. Great experience!

I booked the Pretty Gritty Arts District bike tour. Even for an LA local like me, the tour was super fun, interesting, and informative. If you are concerned about hills and safety, know that the terrain is flat and there is not much cycling through downtown traffic. Jennifer was a wonderful tour guide and an experienced cyclist. I highly recommend this bike tour for tourists and locals alike.

Thanks for checking us out Melanie, and for taking the time to leave us a positive review. We love turning locals on to cycling in downtown.

Had a great time on this easy bike ride around the arts district. We learned so much about the history of the area, backstory on murals all over the neighborhood, and about the way gentrification is unfolding here. I thought it was really well rounded and as a local, totally changed how I thought about this area. We stopped for a snack at one point, and most of the biking was through alleys and small streets with not a lot of cars.

Downtown LA is huge, so it was so nice to see it by bike. Saturday there was hardly any traffic downtown. We got to see a bit of the Lunar New Year parade setup as a bonus. Jen was a great guide - patient and informative.

I LOVED Handlebar Bike Tours arts district tour! My kids, husband and I, plus three other family members did the Arts District tour when we were visiting Los Angeles this last week and it was an excellent experience. Everyone in our group, except for my 12 year old daughter and I, were very experienced street riders. At first, when booking this tour, I was concerned that it might be too difficult or even scary riding on the busy streets of downtown LA, for my daughter and I. I emailed the website ahead of time with my questions and was told that this ride was truly designed for all levels and that they choose the times of the tours to fall when least traffic is, and routes that keep it easy and safe, etc. I still had my concerns when I booked this trip, but hoped for the best.

The tour was much more than I had hoped for. I quickly felt at ease riding around on this tour following our tour guide, Jen. She gave us plenty of instruction ahead as to what to expect riding and following behind. As for the tour itself, I found it to be incredibly informative and truly inspiring. There was a lot of interesting history woven in with current day street art, new buildings area, landmarks, museums, shops, bars, businesses, etc. Jen told us of what used to be in certain locations, what’s there now, who artists are, what buildings the art is on, plus exhibits, places to go back to, tons of info packed into 2.5 hours. So interesting. I also felt really empowered to be riding around on the streets of downtown Los Angeles on a bike and going on back streets and hidden alleys and learning about places that seem like only people “in the know” would know about. I loved this tour, not only for myself, but as a family experience to have together. I highly recommend this tour and I plan to do the historical tour next time I’m in town. There’s a ton happening in downtown LA and it feels exciting to be there.

One of the main reasons I started the tour was to get people comfortable biking in DTLA, so it gives me great pleasure to hear you and your daughter felt empowered on the bikes. Thanks for taking the time to leave us a great review.
