My friend Jody gifted me one of her @MeltingPotFoodTours featuring the Latin flavors of Boyle Heights in East LA and it was the best day ever. Our tour guide was her brother Kerry Flowers @genrehotels @flowershotelgroup9 one of the funniest people I know, only one of several tour guides. Kerry led us on a historical tour of the neighborhood starting at Mariachi Plaza before we stopped for handmade tastings at 8 of the local family eateries including @birrieriadonboni.
We were happy to get our steps in smelling the aroma of too much great food. We stopped at a marketplace to try spices, and delicacies and shop for souvenirs while listening to live performances. The day ended with a slice of Tres Leches cake and churros. Thank goodness the walk was 3 ½ hours having stopped at 8 tasting spots to indulge ourselves.
I love living in LA and made a promise to myself to enjoy as many neighborhoods and events as the city has to offer instead of waiting for visitors to come to town. Our tour group was ridiculously fun and we all became fast friends. There are tours of the Original Farmers Market, Old Pasadena, East Village Long Beach, Thai Town, and soon a Little Tokyo tour! You can curate a private group tour for friends from small to large groups, or purchase gift certificates. My goal is to accomplish all the tours in 2024!

As a food tour operator myself, and a foodie, I love taking food tours all over the globe - and have done several Melting Pot food tours. I always learn from these pros! We took the Farmers Market tour (family and friends) and it was really cool - I loved learning the history of the market and the area, and meandering through the market while we tried various foods. While I prefer tours that cover a larger area, such as a community or neighborhood, I highly suggest this one for those who want to visit the market and learn its history and that of some of its original stalls. It would also be great for people who can't walk as far as longer food tours.

We were in Los Angeles for the first time for just a few days. We spent four of our precious hours in the city on this tour and were not disappointed - at all. The tour is the brainchild of two delightful sisters who were born and raised in LA. They know the food scene and have arranged fun, informative visits with vendors from the Farmers Market and with restaurant and shop owners down Third Street who ply you with their wares: doughnuts, Brazilian grill, bread and cheese, English toffee, tea, cakes, salads, sushi and more. My 21-year old son who is a vegetarian and doesn't give a lot of thought to food was thoroughly entertained. (A celebrity sighting in a cookbook store we visited was a bonus.) I think that the tour would be especially entertaining to someone who lives in the city and enjoys food. Lots of fun!

Melting Pot Tours is one of the best vacation experiences I have ever had, and I can say that honestly. Diane was extremely personal and friendly. You just wanted to hug her when it was over and you were wishing it would continue. Whether you are a resident of Los Angeles or just visiting, this is one tour that you don't want to miss. Not to mention, the food was incredible!

It was a great decision to join this tour to check out the farmers market for the first time. Kevin’s knowledge about the history of each store and the specialty of each dish adds the wing to the farmers market. Two hours were quickly disappeared in the morning. Please save your own breakfast because the tour provides a lot of food!!

We took the walking tour of Old Pasadena. Small group of just 10. Visited several small ethnic restaurants, unique shops - olive oil, soap, etc. Met owners. Heart history of the city told by native born guide. Great food, good exercise, nice pace.

I organized a tour for 35 Family and Consumer Sciences/Home Economics teacher with Melting Pot for the second time in conjunction with our yearly conference. The reviews were amazing. They learned so much that they can take back to their classrooms, tasted delicious foods, and had an all round good time. There were 3 groups led by Diane, Barbara and Andres. All of the guides were very knowledgeable, professional, approachable and fun. I highly recomment Melting Pot Food tours.

Diane was our tour guide and gave us all the history about this amazing place. All the vendors we visited were so kind and the food was delicious! We started out with coffee and donuts, then had English toffee, small tacos, fresh fruit, pizza, Mediterranean, amazing corned beef sandwiches and finished off with ice cream! Diane has built great relationships, over 10 years, with these vendors which makes the tour even more special.

My husband and I joined the Farmers Market food tour recently and were not disappointed! Our tour guide was Lisa, who was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had about 10 stops total on the tour and had so many yummy tastings along the way. The diversity of the food we sampled was wonderful and we both enjoyed learning more about the Farmers Market and its history. We can't wait to check out some of the other tours provided by Melting Pot! Whether you are a tourist or a local (as we are), I'd highly recommend the tour!

Sorry I meant to ask is it feasible to take children with you?
Written January 13, 2016
yes it would be great for kids; but I would recommend that they be older than 6. While you are walking around the farmer's market there are opportunities to sit so it should be good for kids. Have fun!
Written January 15, 2016
Hello. I'm thinking of going on the east LA tour is it possible to take children with you?
Written January 13, 2016
The places you go on the tour are certainly good for children and they are welcome on the tour. You still have to pay full price for each unless they are under 5 yes old. It is a good experience for all.
