We visited the Main Beach on an October afternoon when the beach had been closed because of an oil spill near Huntington Beach. Usually we are taken by the activity of sea animals and beach-goers. But on this day, the natural beauty of the gentle crescent shape of the surf was more apparent. As the tide went out at the end of the day, the nearly-horizontal rays of setting sun highlighted the strip of sand between the current position of the waves and the line of kelp discarded by the waves, farther inland. The absence of shadows in the fine sand showed that the moonscape-smooth intersection of land and sea was still whole, just the way Nature had left it. We noticed that there was a larger crowd than usual on shore, maybe because they too were taken by the sight of a beach that's untouched by human hands.

This beach provides a long walk along the coast and it connects to Heisler Park. The city keeps it free from seaweed and there are basketball courts (closed due to COVID-19). We stayed at the Inn at Laguna Beach which overlooks this beach.

This is a wonderful beach! We timed it for low tide so our grandkids could find creatures. They had fun finding hermit crabs and other animals. We were very careful to just observe. The cove is nice and protected so we were comfortable letting the kids explore a bit. The stairs down are steep - not for strollers or wheelchairs or mobility impaired. Make sure you look out to the ocean - we saw whales breaching too! It was a little chilly in December but the kids still got wet wading in the ocean. Take a jacket!

The beach is beautiful, the town however is another story. Overpriced at every turn, I paid less for a burger at Disneyland than at the run down restaurant here. The whole "no smoking or vaping anywhere at anytime in city limits" is ridiculous. For a town that was once progressive and artistic it feels a bit more like a bible belt town now. There are dozens of nice beach towns close by, any of which would be a far better choice than what Laguna has become

We stayed at The Inn at Laguna Beach. This is the beach that the hotel leads to. The tide pools are fun. There is one that you can get in and hang out in. Lots of crabs and fish. Incredible view from North to South. The waves are small for little kids, but they can pack a nice lil punch for first time body boarders and a fun ride all around. There are nice restrooms there too. Clean and plenty of room.

It is much smaller than Huntington Beach, but can be just as crowded on a people per square area basis. It is more scenic. The highlight, was seeing a seal coming up for air, time and again.

Nice laid back spot in Orange County as an alternative to San Diego and LA. Nice place to watch the world go by.

A cool seaside place with laid back clientele living the local life in the sun. Some naff elements but a nice small promenade, grassed areas and wide sandy clean beach. Beach volleyball nets available and a lifeguard hut established in 1929. Most people were sat out enjoying the afternoon sunshine, with only the odd person barking and shouting at the traffic, hookers promenading in their knee high boots and some old hippies sat around smoking pot.

We were kindly escorted off of the beach by the lifeguards because of a tent that was within the regulated expectations. Everyone around us had tents and nobody was told to take it down however we were selected out of many( the only colored(black)people) on the beach to take our tent and belongings. The lifeguards suggested we go to a beach that is two miles away. I will never be at this beach again and i will tell everyone i know as well

Is Main Beach a good place to take teens who want to gave some water fun during the summer? If not then what beach is
Written May 3, 2019
My teen daughter and her bestie LOVE Main Beach, Thousand Step Beach, and many more in Laguna Beach, since the shops are one-of-a-kind, and the beaches have incredible rock transformations for photos for social media.
Huntington Beach & Newport Beach are a short drive away (depending on traffic and times of transit), yet the Laguna Beach beach photos and sunsets are AMAZING!

Is it too cold for beach vacation in September?
Written March 7, 2017
There are so many things to do in Laguna Beach, that even if not hot it's a great place to visit. Picnics, hiking art galleries, and nearby cities Newport Beach etc. make it a perfect vacation spot even it Sept. Generally it's still nice & warm with fantastic sunsets!

How are weekdays at the beginning to middle of June? I need to find somewhere I can park that is very accessible to the beach as I am somewhat mobility impaired so walking is going to be difficult..thanks

One of the busiest times of the year. If you are going to only be there for a few hours I'd suggest parking anywhere but there. Park a mile or two away and then take the free trolly. If you are limited with your walking Laguna Beach is good because they have areas to walk that are not sandy. They also have restrooms and food places so you can walk to all those areas with ease.

Are there nice restaurants and friendly places to stop along the boardwalk to have a meal/drinks?
Written July 26, 2015
Aside from the restaurant behind the Hotel Laguna, they're all good. Greeter's Corner has a good fish lunch. Take your pick----you shouldn't be disappointed.
Written July 27, 2015
Hi. Parking availability depends on when you are here. Nice summer weekends are tough, weekdays are a lot better. You can usually find some metered parking on the side streets.
