I am a huge fan of food tours and free walking tours and Laguna has both. I’d been eyeing one of the food tours in town, but we’re trying to be a little thriftier, so I was pleased to learn about this free walking tour. As I read reviews, I wondered if the David that people raved about for both tours was the same guy (or if they just have a lot of tour guides named David in Laguna Beach), and it turns out, it was the same person. My husband actually grew up in nearby Laguna Niguel and is pretty familiar with Laguna Beach, but I knew that I wouldn’t be the only one learning something new on this tour – that’s why you take tours, people! It’s so worth it. We wound up being the only people on the tour. I always feel a little bad for guides when this happens, especially on a free walking tour, because no matter how much you enjoy doing it, it means your tips are going to be limited regardless of how generous or prepared people are. We lamely forgot that this happens sometimes and didn’t have much cash on us to tip at the end – sorry, David, you are awesome! We spent a little over 90 minutes walking around and learning the whole history of Laguna Beach. There’s too many dates and names and details to realistically remember, but there are quirky details that you’ll never forget. I loved that he sent us a map of our route at the end! Even if you’ve lived in SoCal your whole life, I highly recommend doing this, you’ll notice things you didn’t before and have a much richer experience.

It was definitely worth the ride to get there. Beautiful views. The walk was great even with young children. Could have spent the whole week there.
