When in San Diego you can get to Mount Helix in 15 unites from anywhere. When you arrive there is 30 minute parking (its not a big place). They have an amphitheater made of stone and a cross at the very top. The view is fantastic, from Mexico to the Mountains to the Beach. There is some history here also where it was given to the city back in 1925 by a local who just wanted to share it's magnificence. Be ready to take some pictures. I think they have sunrise services here on Easter. This is a must visit. Do it before going to the Zoo or Balboa Park.

This was a beautiful place on the top of a hill with a huge amphitheater, a large Cross, informational placards about wildlife, and pretty landscaped small gardens. We came on a sunny and clear day and the unobstructed 360- degree views were spectacular from every angle. We were even able to see all the way to the ocean.

It was very quite deserted up there on a week day, so it was nice to get away from the hustle and the bustle of the city, and enjoy some peace and quiet.

If you are looking for some tranquility amid a calm atmosphere plus get a little exercise, this would be the place for that. The fragrant flowers complete the ambiance.

The only problem is the very limited parking – only about 8 or 10 spaces. People park down the winding path on the side of the road. If you see stopped cars, just grab a spot and walk the rest of the way.

It is certainly a “Must See” place for a tourist, as well as a local.

A must see! It was quite the hike up the hill if you’re not in shape and could park close are several parking spots along the way. There was only one handicap parking spot unfortunately but if you call they will save it for you. The sunset is absolutely amazing and it wasn’t very busy however it was only Wednesday. Highly recommended and a beautiful view!

A winding road and difficult parking but the view makes up for any inconvenience. Despite all the attempts to make them remove the giant cross as a religious symbol, it remains in all its glory.

This is as close as you can get to being a bird in San Diego! This park is the apex of Mt. Helix and affords you 360 degree views. Parking is limited, so you may have to pull in close to the hill and walk up once you are inside the gate. There is a theater with cement seating on one side of the park. Many people use the stairs here as their daily workout! There are no permanent restrooms, so expect to use port-a-potties, also no food or snacks available. This is a great place for a picnic, just bring everything you need! Driving up and down are one way, but the road is well marked.

In the old days you could park and enjoy a nice romantic view from your vehicle. Now they have installed pipes and chains so there is nowhere to park and enjoy the view.Just a hand full of spots marked facing the wrong way.One porta potty and one water fountain. You would think Mt Helix could do better???

Great place to explore or see an event . Been here many times throughout the years to find that Zen happy place on a boulder and have seen many plays and been to many fundraisers here too...

Drive up here every year while visiting San Diego. The drive alone to the top is awesome. The view is amazing and peaceful.
The only down fall is that parking is limited.

This park is just lovely. In the morning and evening, the light is at times perfect for photos of San Diego and the ocean beyond. This park may be fun for older children, but there is no play equipment or grass.

There's Mount Soledad in La Jolla with it's great views of water and the city, but there is also this wonderful and very different view from this mountain top in the La Mesa area west of San Diego. We went to see it on a sunny day and it was phenomenal. The photos here do not do it justice. True, there isn't much to do here once you walk to the top, but how about just enjoying the beauty and the relaxing view? There is a staging area for plays, concerts and special events. It boldly displays a cross, but you aren't hit over the head with a lot of religious rhetoric. It's also true that there isn't a trove of parking spaces. So, plan accordingly, but do put it on a list of things to see. Not far off of the expressway (8) and worth your time. No concessions, but there are bathrooms.
