- Nicole0805Ankeny, Iowa4 contributionsAwesome experienceMy mom and I chose the tandem paragliding experience and it was amazing. Charlie and Alex were our guides. They did a great job of explaining the scenery around us and how the parachutes worked. They put us at ease and made for a truly memorable experience. Will definitely go back and do this again with my kids.Visited April 2023Traveled soloWritten April 22, 2023
- Devries87Sharpsville, Pennsylvania208 contributionsMust see! Great sunsetThis is a must see if you are in the area . The sunset is even better! We hiked with our kids around the trains and even down to the beach which was a nice hike but fyi at the bottom is a nude beach. Beautiful views and there is a snack area at the top by the Gliderport.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten May 13, 2023
- mnguru1Edina, Minnesota561 contributionsParagliding looks like a lot of fun- if you want to experience it for yourself, book a tandem glideI was going to do the tandem paraglide, but will have to do it on another trip as I was running out of time. We did go to the Gliderport and watched others do it. It looks like a lot of fun. You are right next to Black Beach (nude beach) and the slot canyon. So, you can do other things if you want when you go there.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 21, 2023
- WorkorSpaStay18 contributionsYes.They open early but flights don’t start until the wind picks up. Flights are first come first serve but they may hold off on people over 150lbs until they are confident in winds. I showed up to be first in line but had to weight 2 hours on wind. Great hiking to beach. Great people watching. The sandwich shop is there to help with munchies and a great view.Visited June 2023Traveled soloWritten August 13, 2023
- alstrand777Bonsall, California45 contributionsMake this your first stop when visiting San Diego! This should be the #1 thing to do while visiting San Diego! Most travelers make La Jolla & it's beaches, aquarium and maybe even famous Torrey Pines golf course a must do while in town. Book a tandem flight and get the best views of La Jolla, Torrey and the Pacific Ocean. Do you want to fly over the beach, pier, or maybe fly next to Alicia Keys mansion. As a local this is the best of the best!!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 17, 2023
- kathysellersFrankfort, Illinois227 contributionsGliding over Torrey PinesMy sister and I went Paragliding out of Torrey Pines Gliderport. It was amazing. I was in tamdem with JC, my glider expert, and he was wonderful. He explained to me how the gliding worked, pointed out dolphins in the ocean, and safely glided me around the cliffs of Torrey Pines. I loved it.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 2, 2024

It's pretty amazing to watch these brave people take off and glide out over the cliffs and the crashing waves. Not me, just looking!

I love the serenity and natural beauty of its location. Watching people step off the top of the cliff for hang gliding is an added benefit. Not far from Mt Soledad.

Our waiter at Coffee Cup recommended we catch sun set at Gliderport and we were not disappointed. To stand on a cliff and watch the sun set over the ocean was magical!

I waited 2 days to go paragliding and I’m glad I did. The first day the wind wasn’t strong enough but I stayed around anyway. I was able to see my first west coast sunset there and it was beautiful! Day 1: I filled out all the paperwork in hopes of getting to go but no luck. Day 2: I called and they said it may be a good day, to which they said they would call me if it was and sure enough they did. The staff is extremely friendly and so were the other people there just enjoying the view. The trek down to the beach below is worth it but be careful. There is a fee to go paragliding but not to sit back and enjoy the sights. I even ate at the restaurant while I was there and the food I had was GREAT!! I can’t wait to go again and I highly recommend going. If like parasailing or are looking for adrenaline rush then you will LOVE paragliding!!

Best place I have found for a tandem ride! Your launch is right off a 200 foot cliff, for a cruise alongside the beach and cliffs. Area borders Torrey Pines golf course, and a long ride can take all the way up to La Jolla Shores beach. There is also a snack bar, so you can just go and watch all the activity if you want, but when you see how easy it is to take off don't hesitate just go for it!

We went to the Torrey Pines Gliderport with teenage nephews. We all loved the scenery and the excitement of the gliders, view, cliffs, and the feel of the place. Everyone watched for awhile and then walked all the way down the cliff to the beach area. Great hike for everyone. The deli at the gliderport is good too.....great selection of sandwiches and homemade breads. Great place to hang out, eat lunch, enjoy the view and witness the glider action (when the wind is right).

You should come here just for the view. The photos that you take are incredible and the views are once in a lifetime. I was going to paraglide but the conditions were not good so they told us we could not. Warning: if its not windy enough you will not be able to go. I will come back because I really wanted to go paragliding.

Even if the gliders are not going off there is so much beauty in every direction you won't be disappointed. Free parking and surfers to watch below on the beach. We saw whales and dolphins as well. Enjoy the beauty here for a little while or a day.

Got to this site because of a GPS error looking for the State Park. But it was just what we wanted: a spot to view the sunset. Spectacular views with a steep hike down to the beach if you want. Great people watching, too, with surfers coming and going from the parking lot. Go at sunset. You won't be disappointed.

Not a lot to see, but it's relaxing to watch the hang gliders, and look out at the ocean. There's a little cafe that makes sandwiches, so the Gliderport is a nice place to go have lunch and spend an hour relaxing.
I wouldn't make this a "destination", but if it's nice weather, and you've got an hour to blow, by all means go to the Gliderport.

I have some questions. My first one is, which is better tandem paragliding or tandem hang gliding. My last question is, which one is scarier, and which one is more fun?

As I recall it was $170 ish. Additional if you want professional pics and video. I did all and it came in around 250??? I’d skip the video but the pics were worth it.
Will you be able to take Pictures of yourself?

I don’t think so unless you had your camera attached so you don’t drop it. I used their go pro to film the whole ride.

Did anyone experience motions sickness doing the paragliding?

Some might, I sure didn't! It was very quiet and peaceful! That said, if you have any fear of heights I'd opt out. Pacific Ocean is 350 feet from where you take off and you're sail much, much higher than that!
