It's not just a playhouse, the entire campus environment had outdoor fire pits, live musicians, wine bars, and friendly people everywhere. The show itself was Broadway quality and the place was more or less packed. We are not locals but decided to give it a...More

This campus has been the birthplace of many Broadway shows and did not disappoint. We were given a very person tour by a very kind member of staff, and my youngest son, who is a huge Jersey Boys fan, absolutely loved it. We were not...More

Top quality is its trademark. It is one of the San Diego's top two theaters for new theatricals. There are around 40 non-movie theaters in this area.

We have been to the playhouse several times. We went last week to see Donna Summers The Musical, which was extended two weeks because it was so popular. It was excellent, and on its way to Broadway. The playhouse is a lovely theater--not too big,...More

This theater is in a very convenient location, easy to drive to, with great parking across the street. Very cheap during the week and free parking on weekends. It is not to big and the acoustic's are really good which makes any play a good...More

I don't think there is a bad seat in the house! It was a perfect evening. The sets were incredible, the costumes were on point and the performers were.... AMAZING! What a wonderful production - hopefully it will move onto Broadway. The seats were well...More

There’s a reason why some blockbuster Broadway hits start out here: audiences appreciate and respect the art of live theater and the productions here are always excellent. Even for me, this theater is worth the drive from Los Angeles! I always leave with a smile...More

This place is amazing. Not a bad seat in the house. I’ve had season seats for over 10 years now. Prices have gone up over the years, but it’s still a great value. I saw the very first Jersey Boys, Memphis, Come From Away, etc.

I am a season ticket holder and love the plays I've seen-edgy, well presented, and entertaining. This is theater at its best! Easy parking. Low-key feel.

Travel to La Jolla Playhouse (6 Replies)
Will be staying at Grand Colonial and going to Playhouse on a Sat. night . What is the best way to get there and back? Do I need a car? Can I walk? Should I take a taxi there and make pick up arrangements for after the show?

Uber after a show at La Jolla Playhouse? (17 Replies)
We're planning to take the surfliner (train) up from Old Town, dinner, 8pm show at La Jolla Playhouse in early September. There isn't a late enough train back (plus it will be dark), so I wanted to see if it will be a problem getting an uber to take us back to the Andaz? Thank you!

There is no surfliner train stop or lightrail stop in La Jolla. That plan won't work. You'll need an Uber both ways. I don't know if you'll have trouble finding one in the evening ? Others who use Uber(or Lyft) more than I do should be on here soon.

Staying at the Del with husband, and 17 year old boy/girl twins. Looking for fun dinner/evening activities. Kids are theater/music(jazz)/dance oriented. Already booked La Jolla playhouse for the 18th. Would like to spend the afternoon and get dinner in La Jolla before. Suggestions for afternoon activity and nice dinner? I've read parking can be rough in the town. Was thinking about Old Globe, but not sure about which play to see. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead? We love improv...More

Thank you all, these are all great suggestions. Unfortunately The Shout House is 21 and over, seems like great fun! My son just performed in Fiddler, he will probably enjoy checking that out! Just hoping the weather is warmer than when we visited last summer, it was chilly/cloudy for beach activities.
