One of my favorite places to visit in Southern California. The Ellen Browning Scripps Park located in La Jolla is stunningly beautiful. During the right lighting and waves conditions you can look right through the translucent water curling. The colors are world class stunning. Aquatic animals are generally present with hiking trails around the park easy to moderate. Watch for signs cautioning access to several areas.

Had a tough time finding a place to park, but well worth it. On the winter day we came, it was quite crowded however. There were so many people with booths selling just about anything - that was a little surprise. Fun though to walk around the park - what an amazing tree (Lorax?) that we've seen in pictures many times.
You can also see the sea lions, but you'll have to put up with the ugly tourists who go right up to them and try to pet them and whatever. Hard to believe.
Would be a great place to watch the sunset however.

This is a wonderful park for those who love the ocean. There are lots of activities that you can do such as walking, biking, picnic, sea-life watching (sea gulls, pelicans, sea lions), water activities, and lots of trees. It's a very busy place, especially on mid day. Parking is very difficult as it gets later in the day. We stayed at the Pantaii Inn which is just across the park and it's a plus to not have to drive to enjoy the park. It's also an awesome location if you plan on getting excellent sunset photos. And because it is so near the water, always bring a sweater, SPF lotion, water for hydration, and of course, your camera.

This park was magnificent, The views, the surrounding neighborhood. The cliff area that was around the park, the green space. My teen boys went swimming in the water for a bit. We saw plenty of seals!! Unfortunatly, other tourists were very close to the seals. They had plenty of pupps around. I was a bit nervous that people could stand this close to them.
We did run into a homeless man who was actively digging in a trash can. This we can ignore; well...he was angry and my kids felt uncomfortable. Plus he was stinky and chose to eat a sandwich out of the garbage in front of us. Quite a site, and certainly not something I thought we would see in the area we were sitting.

We visited in October of 2018. My wife and I are natives of San Diego. We are sure that we both spent time here as kids stopping here for lunch while on school field trips and summer day camps. We brought our own kids to see visit La Jolla Cove and to Ellen Browning Scripps Park. Having grown up in Scripps Ranch and a lover of Dr. Seuss books, we shared this special place with our children. We feel so fortunate to have been able to visit the Lorax tree before it tumbled. The views from this spot are absolutely gorgeous!

An interesting beach where green meet, between the Children pool and La Jolla Cove, it is a nice family-friendly place to sit and enjoy the blue waves from the green grass.

Allow at least half a day to walk along the coastline and admire the views. There are places to rest and buy art, to swim in the surf or wade in gentle seaside pools. Lots of natural wild life like seals, sea lions, cormorants, gulls and osprey. Bring a picnic or eat at one of the local restaurants--there are many to choose from.

This park is one of the most gorgeous parks in the world. Walking along the coast and looking at the rock formations and the waves is peaceful and beautiful. This park and the coast line at the cove are beyond wonderful.

This park is part of the legacy of the late Ellen Browning Scripps who gave this land, and other significant parcels, to the children of San Diego in perpetuity. The City has tried to covert some of the land in La Jolla for other purposes only to run into a condition of the bequest that should this happen, the entire set of parcels will revert to the heirs of her estate. This operates as a powerful block to prevent the City from selling any of the land for development purposes! What a late heroine she was!!!!
