This is one of our kids favorite places to go. Year round fun. Check for low tide. Lots of area to explore north and south. Hermit crabs fish and especially vibrant colors in the fall / winter which is still shorts and tank top weather...More

As a SD resident, I think they can stop naming everything after Scripps. You see and hear that name everywhere... That being said, this is a great beach to sit and relax, walk and poke around in the rocks and look at the sea life....More

This is a length of shoreline in LaJolla, where, at low tide, the sandstone rocks are revealed, and you can see crabs and other sea life in the tide pools (not to mention tiny, beautiful sandstone formations). The two-hour on-street parking limit is about right...More

This was fabulous to see so much life in the cracks and rocks. So enjoyed it that went back the next day with my grandkids who were fascinated. When the tide comes in you can go see the sea lions, fascinating themselves, and then we...More

With the tides out you can see many sea urchins and flora uncovered. You can walk carefully on the rocks being sure not to damage the nature that's exposed. The sea roars nearby and the cliffs can be explored as you walk up the coast....More

Our grandchildren had a great time exploring the pools at low tide. Small fish, crabs, spiders, anemones, etc.

The views are amazing! It was neat to see the crabs and other creatures. You have to get there really early in the morning in order to see them. Wear shoes with traction because it is really slippery. I would not recommend sandals or flip-flops.

Went to Shell Beach toward the end of the day waiting for low tide. Even though there are steps down it still requires a little maneuvering over rocks to get to the beach. It's beautiful and relaxing and I climbed over more rocks to a...More

Smooth sand beach with interesting pools. A few shells, rare sea glass and wonderful cliffs sculptured by wing and water. If the tide is right, lots of living small bright red lobsters (?prawns) on the beach being devoured by gulls.

Fun area to walk around. Contrary to what you may read other places, there were no starfish or anything in the tidepools. It was certainly a pretty area.

Easiest is to ask your smart phone "when is low (or high) tide" once you are in San Diego. Otherwise look it up on the web: Shell Beach San Diego on Tideschart (sorry, TA doesn't allow URLs): Should bring you to their... More
