Our favorite beach - if you can be patient with parking

We love this beach, and come to stay as often as possible. The sand is soft and the water entry gradual at just about any tide level. When the waves are high, boogie boarding and body surfing is a blast. Even just sitting under an umbrella and people-watching can make for a fun day! On the southern side of the... More

just a regular august weekend and it was packed...great water though. It was pretty cold as well. You can walk up and down quite a bit, swim almost anywhere. Its just so crowded, and the parking lot while free, not that large and after 10am its full. Got very lucky 2 days in a row cars pulled out so I... More

This beach is big enough for everyone even though it was very crowded especially on the swimming side. The whole family enjoyed our day at the beach. Parking was a problem due to the crowds, but there is parking close to the beach. The beach is sandy and the waves are good for body surfing or on boogie boards. There... More

Try to arrive early....like everyone else does! Hard to find parking. No space in lot by late morning, but eventually found street parking.

Best beach in the area to spend the day. It has lifeguards on duty, a bathroom/shower facility and shaded grassy area for those who need a break from the sun. The sand is clean of debris and ocean is clear and so refreshing! The Internet description says it has more parking than any of the other beaches. That statement is... More

I stopped by briefly while traveling for business. The beach was nice and clean and not too populated. I would definitely plan to stay for much longer next time to make it a whole- or half-day long activity.

La Jolla Shores beach is just south of the La Jolla cove. The southern-most part of the beach is actually a nursery for leopard sharks! (they don't bite). But as you go north, it's a wonderful sandy beach with gentle deliciously shaped waves for either body or board surfing. Honestly, you can't miss on these waves :) Water is clean... More

La Jolla Shores is a nice wide beach with a lifeguard 365 days per year. There is a great swim/ boogie board area and the rest of the beach is for surfing. Beginners can learn near the parking lot, intermediates can surf near the pier and professionals like to surf Blacks Beach. There is a nice large free parking lot,... More
