Our guide met us at the beach with all of our equipment. Water temp was in the 60s so we wore 7 mm wetsuits hoods gloves and booties. Guide was very helpful and thorough. Did two dives one in La Jolla Cove and one off the beach in La Jolla Village. Water was very cloudy so it was difficult to see much. Did see a large octopus and several types of crabs. Kelp forest was interesting but water too murky to venture deep into the kelp. Saw seals and sea lions on the surface but did not see any under the water. Would recommend going a different type of the year when the water may be more calm and clear.

Calli is super rad in her love of diving. her attitude makes things easier than a normal guide. the cove dive was generally better than a normal California dive. We spotted a decent fish and the sea lions were quite fun. I am a huge kelp forest fan, so this did not disappoint. 15-20' visibility was too bad during the 45 min dive. the 'reef' dive was not very interesting, and arduous to get to with a long surface kick and a plethora of people on the beach. we both imagined a night dive would be more fun, as octopus have been seen. but as you know, every dive is different, the only constant would be Calli, which made both dives better.

We live in Santa Monica, CA. We went to La Jolla to scuba dive with expectations of some cool critters. None of us have been there to dive, so we went to La Jolla Dive for the “dive tours”. We are all advanced divers with 30-500 dives between us depending on person. I’m the 30.

We booked the two tank La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Canyon dive and the La Jolla Canyon night dive. Peter was a dive guide on the La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Canyon dives and Brandon on the La Jolla Canyon night dive.

La Jolla the area did not disappoint. La Jolla Dive, Peter and Brandon and the owner (whose name I can’t recall this sec.) were EXCELLENT. I would not go to another shop even if given the choice and free dives. They listen, they give a detailed dive overview, they ask what you want to see and try to find it, they bring spare gear and extras “just in case” and they are passionate about diving. I run a firm. I wish all my staff could dial in and be as good as these guys were with all our customers. I’m sure they can have their off days but the days for us were A+.

So, if you want to dive in La Jolla, anywhere, contact La Jolla Dive. Brandon is one of the main night dive guys, Peter was our day dive, there is a Madison but we did not meet her… and a cool owner. When you get to La Jolla Shores, the space is in the alley behind the main shops. But very easy to find and has a lot of dive gear (no retail, this is an action shop).

I'm writing this review not of La Jolla Cove (the dive site) but of the shop, La Jolla Dive. Our divemaster was Eli. I have been on many dives in the US, and with many different ops. I can confidently say that Eli is easily in the top 10% of American divemasters I've either worked with or dived under. He is extraordinarily sociable while also being a calm and adaptable leader in the face of unexpected changes, be they weather or human-related. He is extremely familiar with the dive site and the animals in the water. While the dives I did with La Jolla Dive were less than ideal (mainly due to high variability vis and surge), La Jolla Dive (and Eli in particular) did a phenomenal job in preparing and guiding the experience as a whole.

Brian led my sons and I on a dive at LaJolla Cove. He did a great job on pre-dive briefing and in dive safety checks. We were all experienced divers and his pace was great. He pointed out a lot of the local lobsters and fish during dive. It was 57 degrees at depth and a beautiful day. Highly recommend Brian and the dive center. Would do this dive again when we return someday to San Diego.

Had some amazing dives in La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shires with Laura. She has a passion for SCUBA diving. Unlike most places, you don't feel rushed to get in yr dives and get out the door, but she took the time to make the experience enjoyable.

My 11 year old son and I did 2 shore dives in La Jolla Cove. This was out first ocean dive and we had a great time. Saw the kelp forest, lots of fish, lobsters, and were lucky enough to see a shark. Our guide Ely was very informative, kept us safe, and helped significantly with the surface swims and waves. Would certainly recommend using La Jolla Dive

It was easy to schedule our 2 tank dive in La Jolla Cove with our dive master Kenley. He is amazing, chill, expert with a wealth of knowledge. He gave me , a newly certified open diver so many tips on buoyancy. Everyone can learn from him whether you have 5 dives or 500. He prioritizes a great experience for you, rather than just time. For example, he recommended that we do our two dives in the cove, rather than picking up and heading over to the La Jolla canyon and battle for parking. (La Jolla traffic & parking can be a nightmare in the summer). He knows the dive site very well and he got there early to reserve a prime spot for our gear. Our dive was at 8am but definitely recommend getting there by 7am for decent parking, especially in the summer. We saw sea lions swimming around us, plenty of lobsters & garibaldi, sheephead, kelp bass, eel, 2 horned sharks, rock wrasse and zebra perch.

While I wouldn’t rate this dive five stars, I definitely rate my instructor five stars! I am open water certified and have about ten dives under my belt — all of my previous dives were in tropical climates.

This was my first time doing a cold water dive and first time diving in California. Liam called me the day before the dive to prep me, and thank goodness he did! Turns out a California shore dive is no joke for a novice like me. If he hadn’t mentally prepared me for the cold, the tough waves, the strong current, and the murky water, I think I would have been miserable.

While the conditions made this far from my best dive, I was grateful for Liam’s candor about what to expect and his attentiveness to helping me conquer a new type of dive! Instead of being miserable or scared away by the experience, Liam set me up to walk away feeling just a little more competent at learning to be a better diver.

Thank you, Liam!

Did a La Jolla Cove dive last weekend. Two of us are very experienced, the other two divers were recently certified and this was their first ocean dive.

One of the newly certified divers needed some extra TLC to complete the dive. The amount of attention and patience Liam provided was amazing. He kept this diver calm and under his wing the entire dive. He also helped carry some of the gear down and up the steps for those of us with questionable knees.

He was outstanding and extremely helpful with anything we needed.

Chris (the owner) was very accommodating with all the changes we had to make (adding another diver, changing the gear rental needs, etc.)
