Such an amazing company to do kayak tours through! Our guides were Kristen & Ryan and they were INCREDIBLE! We did a kayak tour to the sea caves here in La Jolla for my sisters birthday and got 5 star service from beginning to end. The confirmation email you get after booking has all the info you need, so scroll to the bottom and read it!! Make sure you arrive 30 minutes before your tour to check in, get your locker/wet suits and then there is a good 5 minute walk to the beach to meet your guides. When we walked in we were greeted like family and my very reserved parents felt right at home and comfortable to do something totally out of their comfort zone! We are an adult family of 5 and reserved two double kayaks and one single, everything was provided (helmets, paddles, instructions) and there are plenty of staff on the beach to direct and assist you. They help push you out over the waves to get you going and provide plenty of direction, we were even taught how to kayak surf in afterwards! We saw tons of sea lions, fish, cormorants, and the water was so clear and cool to be in! Kristen and Ryan were so knowledgeable and gave us so much fun information while on the water, they knew a lot about the marine life we were surrounded by! They made my sisters birthday so special and our trip as a family truly one we won’t forget.

Have to say that the Kayaking excursion was super cool. We kayaked about 3/4 of a mile to the caves where we proceeded to get out of the kayak and go snorkeling. Naturally it really is one of God's creations and I would recommend it to anyone in the area. 2 thumbs up for them.

First off...as soon as you walk in you're greeted by one of the workers! They are super helpful and help you from the time you walk in to the time you're done with the tour! Our guide was a really fun and full of positive energy girl.. I think her name was maddy. Anyhow we loved her! Shes cute and funny! We didnt get to go into the caves which was a little bummer but that's nature what could ya do?... I'm definitely going to book another tour. This was such an amazing experience and I reccomend this to anyone who wants to just get out there and enjoy life! Thank you for my wonderful experience!

I was participating a snorkel tour. We went off to see leopard sharks which were at tip of the beach. There were piers at that tip creating rip currents and I was caught into one. At one time I was at least 50 meters away from the closest swimmers; I was getting exhausted and the wave was strong so nobody could hear me shouting for help. Luckily I took the right approach to swim parallel to the shore. I almost drowned and barely found some other swimmer who helped me get back to the shore.

Problems with the tour:
1. There are too many members vs. guides. In my tour there were around 12 people and only 2 guides. The group didn't hit the water at the same time and the guides could not keep track of everyone around them. They didn't even notice me got carried away by the current. It was moving really fast, by the time I noticed I was separated from the group, I was already 50+ meters away.
2. I can't believe the guides guided us towards the pier. I earned that rip rip currents are likely to form near the piers after I survived. They should have known this and should have warned us.
3. This tour is rated for 6+ years old? Are you kidding me? I guarantee a 6 year old would be dead in my shoes. 100%.
4. In my opinion the wave was too strong for the tour. Should have canceled it.
5. Looking back at past news, I saw multiple groups drowned when snorkeling in the past. As this is a rather dangerous beach, I feel like a safety lesson on rip currents is a must.
6. The guides didn't know the rip currents would occur? I'm not sure if they've checked the forecasts or the lifeguards on that day. I do think it's their responsibility to know and guide us to avoid such dangers (by canceling the event or guiding us away from the rip currents).

When I called to book the tour, I specifically asked about snorkeling in the cove and then booked a tour for my family while visiting my Marine who is stationed at Pendleton. When we got there, we walked down to the crowded beach, fought past big waves to get to slightly calmer ocean, and spent about 35 minutes swimming around seeing absolutely nothing. The guides were nice before and after snorkeling, but I don't understanding what "guiding" they did. There was no acknowledgement that we were in a terrible spot (1 person out of 9 saw even a single fish) or that we should try elsewhere. One of the guides spent most of the time on her phone. When I asked about why we weren't in the cove as I'd thought, she indicated that we could rent the gear at half price after the tour and drive to another spot with better snorkeling. We paid over $550 for the tour and wetsuits, and it just wasn't worth it. I understand you can't control rough waters or wildlife, but I just can't see what value we got for what we paid. It was a big expense for my family and everyone was excited since we have enjoyed snorkeling so much in the past, and it was a huge letdown, especially considering how much we paid.

My boyfriend and I were visiting San Diego and saw this opportunity on Groupon (for a really budget-friendly price!). We're used to kayaking in lakes, so we definitely were not prepared for kayaking in an ocean. On the day we went through Everyday California, the ocean waves were fairly rough. We felt as though the employees didn't prepare us enough for what to expect. While they did ask us if we had kayaked before, they didn't ask to what extent/where. The instructions were fairly rushed through and we were never told to expect for our clothes to get soaked during our experience. The rental "time period" also started when we checked in at the store, so we felt incredibly rushed to get to the beach/get in our kayak in order to maximize our 90 minutes. We definitely feel Everyday California should be better about setting realistic expectations and provide warnings in advance so less experienced people can be more prepared.

Hey Heather, Thank you for the feedback. We do are best to let people know that they will be getting wet while going into the ocean, but we will continue to get better at that. Also, we have a map inside the shop that we show all of our rentals where to safely paddle, then our beach staff is there to point things out in real life and to assist people into the surf. More importantly, we always recommend that anyone without much experience ocean kayaking to sign up for a tour first, that way they get a more descriptive paddle instruction, and a trained guide will be with them the entire duration of the trip. Lastly, we let all our guests know to arrive at least 30 minutes before their designated rental or tour time so they wont feel so rushed. It would be like arriving at the airport the minute your plane is supposed to take off! We hope you enjoyed your time in San Diego!

Alot of walking from distant public parking lot, then required to walk the 4 blocks back to shop to put you stuff in a pile. Why can't the guide pull a wagon with mask and snorkels. For the cost of a day's wages a person could do equipment check in at the beach, if the guides cant pull a wagon.

I left the group early waves too rough, fins too curled, legs tired and still had to return so left. Just glad I didn't paddle board I wouldn't be able to carry it to beach as required. The caves can be seen from beach, nearly as well as from the kayaks. You are NOT going in the caves with the tour.

Guides do not give instructions. This is not a beginners course.

Well, first of all I was the difficult guest. We had a large group and did book last minute. Mikal, I’m not sure I spelled his name correctly, I apologize for that, fielded at least three phones calls from me, and he was so patient and helpful. Everything went smoothly: check-in was a breeze, getting our equipment was fast and efficient, and instructions at the shore were clear. Our guides, Sydney and Jake were friendly and made our day just perfect. Some in our group were a bit apprehensive, but once in the water, our guides’ confidence eased any anxieties. What I liked best about this company was that I felt that safety was a number one priority, and that’s just great with me. Thanks for a great time!

I didn’t really see this to be a tour. Our one guide was very friendly and personable. However, this was basically just taking us out to a spot. There was no tour besides that. Previous snorkeling tours I’ve been on the guides took you into the water and showed you around. These guys basically just said “have at it” and “don’t go out to far”
The water was very murky on the day we went and there was nothing to see where we were. Also the water is very rough and not easily managed.
I would say save your money, rent the equipment yourself and look for other snorkelers in the water.

The store and employees were nice and friendly. But we paid for a snorkeling and Kayak adventure. They took us out and we kayaked to an area and then we hooked up. They said the water is murky, so you might have to dive down to see any fish. None of the people did that. So they took us around the point to see the sea lions. Then we headed back to shore. I feel they should of told us we’re going to only kayak, because of the water conditions today. Other then that it’s a beautiful area and the kayaking was good.
I wouldn’t of put all the snorkeling gear on to just kayak and I wouldn’t of paid for a full wet suit.

Thank you for your kind review. We understand your frustration and appreciate you reaching out. Working with Mother Nature is a challenging task to say the least. Conditions in our ecosystem change every day and moment to moment. While underwater visibility is difficult to predict, we alway do our very best to look for locations to swim and when visibility is poor we are willing to offer you discounted snorkeling gear to check out the cove on your own. Based on your review, it sounds like nobody on the tour was interested in snorkeling considering the water quality so our guides made the decision to change plans to serve the preference of the group. Please email josh@everydaycalifornia.com regarding your experience so we can earn those last 2 stars on your review. Thank you! Best, Josh
