Super fun, low stress, great rental equipment, tons of wildlife

Had a great time diving at the La Jolla Cove with Scuba San Diego. It was my first dive with my Open Water certification. As a newbie, I was treated with much patience and respect and given a quick overview to make sure I hadn't forgotten anything. I didn't bring a single piece of my own gear - it was all provided to me and the gear all functioned flawlessly. Everything was super easy and low-stress. I walked from my hotel down, geared up and walked right into the cove to start our dive.
Aside from the logistics, it was an awesome dive! I saw tons of wildlife, including a small shark and a rare giant sea bass. We had so much fun!

thorough and fun refresher class

My husband and I did a refresher scuba class with Ann Marie and it was a great experience. She was very thorough. I feel comfortable in the water again. I had fun during the little refresher dive. She pointed out wildlife (octopus, fish, sea hairs, etc) in addition to helping us brush up on our skills.

Great 2 Tank Dive

2 tank dive with Ann Marie, had an amazing time in La Jolla Cove. On our second dive we saw the giant black sea bass lurking in the kelp which was an amazing find. I plan on diving here again at night.

Loved it would come back

Rod is great. Loved the dive. If you read about the need to have under a 30 BMI. Just call and talk to Rod. I am a big guy. The dive was awesome the swim out was not as bad as I was thinking. The walk up and down the steps to the cove in full gear is a workout so be ready. We had a sea lion dive with us for close to 20 minutes or more. It was so great. This was well worth it. The water was cool. My wife was diving dry. I was diving a 3mm wetsuit. By the end of the dive I was getting a little chilly but not to bad. We would love to come back. Rod is awesome he has been diving these water a very long time and knows them well.

Challenging but had Julian not been our dive master it would have been terrifying.

The conditions for diving could not have been worse but Julian our dive master was professional and did a great job informing me and my daughter of how to approach the dive. It was my daughter's first open dive after being certified and she needed a lot of reassurance and Julian didn't disappoint. He really helped her get her nerves and breathing under control. He stuck right by her side to ensure her comfort and safety and did a wonderful job reviewing our dive afterwards to ensure we knew what we did right and how we could also improve. He was genuinely concerned that we had a positive experience in spite of the conditions outside of his control.

Snorkel tour through La Jolla caves

We did a snorkel tour in and around the La Jolla caves for 3. Haley, our guide was amazing! She pointed out all of the marine life and was able to answer any questions we had for her. It was a little rougher near the caves but Haley made sure to check in with us constantly through the tour to make sure we were feeling comfortable and even kept a hand on my 16 year old whenever he felt nervous. We can’t wait to try it again!

Excellent snorkel tour with an excellent guide!

We booked a guided snorkel tour for 2. Our guide Haley was great throughout. Very knowledgeable about the aquatic life and what to expect once we are in the water. We swam with sea lions, saw lobsters and of course the Garibaldi fish. The water had some turbulence once we approached the sea caves but Haley was constantly holding my partner so she feels comfortable. We thoroughly enjoyed our snorkel tour and will definitely recommend this activity!

Bad Management, Julian was good

This is a two part review. The Good: Julian was a smart guide, nothing bad to say about him. The Bad: The management. We set up the trip 5 days in advance and received multiple notifications about it coming up, but the day we arrived to La Jolla we didn't have any notification of where to meet, assuming there would be some sort of sign, which there wasn't. We had to call the company to find out where to go, and to their confusion couldn't find our booking only to find out that our reservation went to 'spam' folder. After 15 minutes of resolving that and finding Julian we had to wait for a man named Rod to come and bring us gear, fortunately they'd messed up another reservation and Julian had half of what we needed. Rod proceeded to tell us it was our fault for not putting in our weight and that the cause of the issue was on us. They did not have a pair of flippers that would fit my wife so Rod asked and drove my wife to go up the road to the rental store to get a pair. Instead of being a good person, he made purchase the rental and made her walk the quarter mile back to our group. I emailed the company afterwards to tell them how disappointed we we're in the lack of accountability but after a week I still haven't heard back so I decided to write this.

Thank you for your feedback. We apologize you had a disappointing experience with your wife's fins, but we are glad your snorkeling tour was pleasant. Like you said, we did not have your shoe sizes. We require a height, weight and shoe size for every participant in order to prepare the correct gear. Thank you for your compliments to Julian. We sincerely appreciate it.

Good time with a great guide

Julian was our guide for this trip and he was very understanding, calm and knowledgeable about any topic that involves salt water. He was very accommodating to my girlfriend who had anxiety issues while still maintaining a sense of adventure for me who still wanted to explore deeper into some of the caves. On top of being a good person, he is the person that I would trust with both scuba and snorkeling the future.
