We stopped by to get a cross-country skiing map, in hopes of returning tomorrow to ski. Unfortunately, the older male staffer not only refused to give or sell us a map, he aggressively accused our adult daughter of being an OSHA inspector and said that if he gave her a map they would get a $9,000 fine, which is ludicrous. Probably the worst customer service interaction we’ve had in years. We will not be going back.

While out of the way from South Lake Tahoe, would definitely recommend the trip for a full day of skiing on the weekend. Kirkwood is the most challenging out of the three on the Epic pass and is great for getting you out of your comfort zone. The terrain is definitely unique compared to Northstar and Heavenly. It is exposed, not a lot of trees or folds in the mountains, and so you can see people skiing from very far away, which makes the lifts more entertaining! Solitude lift gets crowded with intermediate skiiers as it only services blues, but the line is shorter on the Reut lift, and some of those blacks are pretty comparable to other blues on the mountain. On days when it’s not icy, my favorite run is Conestoga, off the Reut. Lower Monte Wolfe off Solitude is also not too crowded. Lifts opened with staggered times, so the back side can get crowded in the late mornings. There also are no single riders lines.

Four of us stayed at the Kirkwood Lodge. I was a little concerned when they wrote that our room keys would be left in the lodge foyer because no one would be in the lobby because of covid. They were incredibly organized. The directions were easy to follow and when I called the emergency number, someone answered immediately. The condo was very attractive, roomy, clean and we really enjoyed our stay. Exceeded our expectations. I left my iPad there and they were very gracious in locating it and letting me know. Would absolutely stay there again.

This is our most favorite ski resort when staying in South Lake Tahoe or Pioneer; about 45 minutes away. We feel that it has the best snow conditions in the South Shore area. The mountain is big, so even if lines are full getting on the lifts, it opens up on the mountain because of so many differing levels of terrain. Some keys are to get their by 9:30 on weekends and download the EpicMix app on your phone. This allows you to see the conditions, which runs are open vs closed and a map of the entire mountain. Food options are a little limited with mainly 2 options; 7800 and Timber Creek. The other downside to this is that there is only 1 high speed lift, so some lifts take awhile. Another great option is the group lessons including the ticket price; extremely reasonable.

Beautiful bluebird day for skiing. Various slope available for all runs. I will say is good for beginners though there isn't any good snow for the last couple of days. But still good for green runs. Cornice Pizza are better in price but I haven't tried the food there. Only there for a day.
