The Fall Room of the museum is worth the visit. They use a big painting as a screen. Wonderful. Parts of Senjus work are really interesting, other parts match illustrations to children's books. The museum itself is very interesting with gardens build "in" the museum.

One of my favorite art museums. Everything in the museum is by Hiroshi Senju. Love everything especially the Fall Room. The building itself is an art piece. So serene and blends perfectly with the landscape. An amazing museum and is a must when in Karuizawa.

I did not know this famous Japanese painter. His themes are waterfalls and deers. The museum building is unique and quite interesting. (No photos inside)

The Hiroshi Senju Museum, designed by Ryue Nishizawa (西沢立衛), is unquestionably one of the most captivating pieces of architecture I have had the privilege to see with my own eyes. The organically-shaped, curvilinear light wells puncture through the roof, creating some of most exquisite indoor...More

This is a relatively small gallery but it is so imaginatively designed that the building is almost as impressive as the wonderful work on display. Don't miss the 'Fall Room.' Well worth a visit.

This art museum features of the work of one painter. It's distinctive work, too. It's abstract but natural objects like waterfalls feature throughout. The building was designed especially to house the collection and it's an art-work in itself. The garden outside is a unique collection...More

I stumbled upon this without even knowing about it and was pleasantly surprised. I'd been to the Teshima, Naoshima art islands and didn't think anything could be comparable but this was up to par. Another great example of art and architecture blended together. Actually, I...More

The architecture of this museum is unique, beautiful ponds of natural light and landscape intermingle with the artwork in a gentle manner and provide a beautiful light to the space. As the time passes and the weather moves and changes, so too the light in...More

I had seen Hiroshi Senju's well known water fall paintings in his shows in New York and I was not won by them then. They did not do justice in NYC. But in his own museum which was built for his paintings and installations, wow!...More
