At "Kumba Pond" located in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku-gun, Nagano Prefecture, you can enjoy the dreamlike scenery of red leaves and rivers reflected on the water. The maple leaves dyed fiery red sway on the water, and under the sunlight, the color is even more shining and eye-catching. Fortunately, it was a sunny day, and the contrast with the blue sky was even more beautiful.

It only takes 30 minutes to walk around this pond, so walking while looking at the red leaves above your head is an art that makes you feel refreshed and intoxicated by nature. By the way, from mid-October to early November when the maple leaves are in full bloom, there will be many tourists coming and the crowds will be crowded. Those who want to take pictures can go in the early morning when there are fewer people.

I visited the pond in Aug 2017 summer. Although it was raining at that moment, the pond was still beautiful.

I visited again in Jan 2018, planned to see the snowy pond, nevertheless, the pond is undergoing renovation. The renovation period is from Nov 2017-Apr 2018. Everyone planned to see the pond should notice it, though I don’t really understand why some of the people were able to take pictures during this period.

Kumobaike is a dollop of beautiful tranquility in a rather well trafficked part of Karuizawa. It's right off a rather large street, which does make it easy to get to.

That said, these are nits. The pond itself is ethereal, and the low growing trees and bushes, which are mirrored on the face of the pond itself, creates gorgeous reflections and great visuals.

Yunba Pond itself is beautiful, but the surrounding facilities are really unflattering. First of all, most shops close at five o'clock, and restaurants only close at seven o'clock. We tried to find a place to have dinner at 8 o'clock. Of course, you can choose to order food at the hotel, but of course you don't want to be stuck in the hotel when traveling. Also, the West Wing of the Prince Hotel has a beautiful appearance, but the facilities inside the cabin are dilapidated and air-conditioning requires an additional surcharge. It is not worthy of a five-star hotel.
The most painful thing about Karuizawa is that traveling in July is so quiet.

Arrived in Karuizawa and the weather was quite gloomy.
With some luck, we had pockets of sunshine and decided to drop by the pond.
Made the right choice as the scenery was gorgeous.
Walk around the pond took around 20mins, was enjoyable despite the crowd.

Note, the carpark fee has been increased to 900 yen per car per entry

Beautiful pond to take a stroll around in 15 mins. Also easy to access which brings a lot of tourists. Not easy to find parking. Lovely place during autumn.

Guess it all depends on the time of the year. Being September and not time yet for the autumn leaves, there was not really much but a hint of something great to come. Otherwise it is just a pond?

The view is great and you can enjoy a short walk around the lake in a few minutes. You can easily ride a bicycle to reach the lake.

The lake is about 20min walk from the train station. If you are pressed for time, just give it a pass. It gets crowded after 10am (during autumn) so do go early to avoid the crowd.

We did the usual tourist thing at the old town, some shopping and lunch at sobe restaurant, which was pretty good. then we decided to visit Kumobaike. It's a charming small pond about 15-20 minutes walk from the old town. It's the first time my 9 years old got up close with mallard ducks, and he loved them. We were lucky because there weren't many people while we were there. It is picturesque and people can have a peaceful, quiet time away from the old town. It may take 20 minutes to go around the pond, so the whole excursion is about 1.5 hour.(including walking to/from old town)
