Visited on Sun, Feb 23, 2020. The snowfall around the waterfalls was absolutely beautiful. Not too many people, even being a holiday weekend. There’s also a great souvenir shop near the bus stop at the start of the falls path. We bought some local raspberry jam and maple syrup. Worth the trip up the mountain to see the falls and doing a little shopping. Dress warmly. The falls themselves were warm somewhat because of its basin shape but the rest of Karuizawa is bitterly cold and windy this time of year. The journey up the mountain was about 25 mins by bus from Karuizawa station and cost ¥720 yen per person, except for our four year old son. Would love to come back and see these gorgeous falls in the summertime too. But they were still breathtaking in the winter, to our surprise.

If you visit only one waterfall in Japan, make it this one. We're glad to have headed to Shiraito Falls after our skiing activities.

If it's a sunny afternoon, you can count on there being a crowd around the Shiraito Falls. We went on a winter day, and found it quite a spectacle. It is even more beautiful when the crowd is not there, of course. Remember to check the bus schedule: departing one from Shiraito Falls (heading for Karuizawa Station) leaves roughly hourly. Namely, 10:10, 10:43, 11:40, 12:13, 13:10, 14:20, 15:20 and 16:50.

Shiraito Falls is an unique waterfall in Karuizawa. It is not big and may not be similar with other water falls, but it is unique in it's on way. I would recommend to visit this waterfall if you are in Karuizawa. It's a nice place to have a mini picnic, have some food infront of the water fall and admire the beauty and the sound of water falling. Toilets and a few small shops are available near the entrance of the waterfall. We spent about 20-25mins taking photos and caught the next bus back to Karuizawa Station. The entrance is a small one with a mini slope. No entrance fee.

To get there, take the Karuizawa Kusatsu Line (bus) from Karuizawa station and alight at Shiraito Falls. Journey takes about 25 mins along the beautiful country side and in some places through the woods and cost about 710yen (prepare your money). The bus frequency is not often so keep a look out and check the timetable.

We did a quick excursion by bus to the falls. Do ask for the bus schedule from your hotel and get them to mark out the various stops. This was very helpful.

The ride itself out to the falls was a bit windy but lovely. You pay as you get off. children are half priced. The driver is always patient and willing to explain or calculate for you. Do try to get on the express buses.

The walk to the falls was very short and manageable. It was flat and not too challenging even for little legs or people with difficulty walking or injuries. There are small stalls set up nearby at the bus station with yummy food and a small toilet.

A great way to enjoy nature in a convenient manner.

The problem is getting there. If you have a car, it is a 25 minutes scenic drive (wonderful in the autumn) with a one time Y400 toll for the car. If you go by bus, they run infrequently from JR. Then you have to wait for one to come back. In my view, it is a bit of a hassle and this is not Victoria Falls or Niagra. If you go, take a short walk on the path behind the falls. It is fun to take a panorama photo.

Drove myself there from Karuizawa. It was a 30minutes hilly drive before we reach it entrance. Visited there when the whole place is covered in snow. The waterfall was clear and very beautiful. Surrounding area was also very beautiful with tall trees covered in white. There was a small shop with toilet at the entrance. 30 minutes stays will be enough for this attraction.

This wide arc shaped water falls of snowmelt from Mount Fuji located at Fujinomiya is part of Fuji Hakone Izu National Park. The cliff with hundreds of large and small water falling like silk strings is a sight of gentleness and peace.

A slow drive of approx 25 to 30 mins from Karuizawa city. A must-go place as it's very instgrammable for those who loves gorgeous natural pics. Do note you need to pay 400yen to get to this place (worth paying for)

One of the most popular scenic site in this region, due to easy access since its just a short 5 min walk from the site entrance - expect lots of tourists so take your photos quickly. Just count 1 and shoot. Lol

This is a rather small place; not a grand waterfall. But it is interesting as it looks like the water just flow out from the rocks! Worth a picture.
