I LOVE Shiraito Falls! They are so peaceful to watch and serene to hear. They are very amazing in that the water does not flow from a river. The water comes up deeply from underground, taking 6 to 7 years to reach the surface. The walk is a short hike so everybody should be able to do it! The souvenir... More

I expected to see bigger waterfall, but it was not. Only 5 minutes walking from the bus stop in shiraito, and it's easy to access this spot. As we came on early spring, we didn't see much greenery on the way to the fall.

23-minute/710 yen windy bus ride from stop #2 to the right of Karuizawa Station's North Exit. Just a 5-minute walk to the fall - nice and beautiful enough but much smaller and less impressive than I imagined. It probably wouldn't take you more than 15 minutes to enjoy the falls. There are trails around if you've got time to kill... More

U can take bus no 2 outside the Karuizawa station. It is about 30 min ride n fare is yen 720. Be sure to drop by the Tourist information office inside the station to collect a bus time table. The area is small n u can spend less than one hour m then catch the return bus to station. It... More

Shiraito Falls is one of Karuizawa sightings. There is a bus from train station taking you there in less hour. According to pictures we saw, we knew it was a small fall but we were rather expecting to have a nice walk in snowy mountains and we were disappointed: from bus stop to falls, you walk only 5 minutes and,... Despite of the extreme cold and the slippery frozen ground we still enjoy our brief walk into the falls. There were constant flow of water but definitely not strong as warmer days.

This is the spring at the beginning of the river. I've never seen anything like it. It was very pretty, lots of water, shiny rocks and mosses and ferns.

By itself nothing spectacular, the Shiraito falls is nevertheless a must-see when visiting Karuizawa, two hours from Tokyo. A store on the highway at the entrance to the path that leads to the falls sells salt-roasted fish that is absolutely delicious. Best to reach with a car but can be with bus too.
