Went on a Monday and was pleasantly surprised that they were open. I like sweet wines so I was prepared to not find to find anything. The lady at the bar knew just I needed. She explained that the sangria was an original recipe for the past 11 years. She gave me a sample and I was all in. Left with a growler (that needs to be drank within 3 days — not a problem!)

A definitely a must stop if you like sangria. And hubby left with wine he liked as well. Although small, plenty of seating outside.

As part of a recent trip to San Diego, my wife and I spent an overnight in the beautiful mountain town of Julian, California.

We first learned of Julian while on a search for tasting rooms of the Orfila winery in Escondido (we love their wine). The tasting room of that vineyard has since moved to Oceanside, but we decided to give the Blue Door a try, especially since it was right next door to our hotel.

What a wonderful experience. Cameron and Marc are terrific hosts, and their tasting patio is a lovely setting. But best of all, their wines are FANTASTIC! Marc is a winemaking genius!

A word of caution: if you drink "whites" and don't like "reds", don't stop. As of this writing, the Blue Door only creates red wines. But they are wonderful. Their Nebbiolo is wonderfully dry yet tasty. Their Super Tuscan (Cameron calls it "a knee buckler") is a taste explosion, and their Cabernet is wonderfully playful. Their Merlot is excellent as well.

In the mood for something sweet and refreshing? Stop in for a cup of their homemade Sangria, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

At the end of a long scenic drive through the Cuyamaca Mountains, the Blue Door Winery will greet you with open arms and leave you feeling glad you came.

Not many places are open on a Monday in Julian. We were walking Main Street looking for a place to relax and grab a drink. Saw a sign that said " We're Open". YAY!!! It was a cute little winery tasting room off the main strip (even better). Due to Covid.. there was no wine tastings, only Sangria. Not complaining at all. It was HOT outside and a red solo cup filled with ice and Sangria was PERFECT. SUPER refreshing and yummy. Service was very friendly from Cameron. They have a few outside tables in a cute location. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next day for 2 glasses of Sangria 😊🍷.
Very adorable off the main road boutique style winery. Go check them out and enjoy a glass of Sangria out front.

Our second visit to the Blue Door Winery tasting room and yet again it did not disappoint… it’s up a side street in the little town of Julian and pours about six different reds along with their fresh made Sangria by the glass. We enjoyed each pour and managed to take several bottles home with us. Charming owner, Kameron, takes a lot of pride in her wines and shared her knowledge with us. A very informative and gracious host, what an enjoyable afternoon! We definitely will visit again!

Though they usually only have about a half dozen varietals, every one of them is exceptional. Their wines are unfiltered, resulting in a full body and subtle nuances normally found in much more expensive wines. The owners are exceptionally personable, and great fun to hang out with while enjoying a glass (or two). Bonus- the tasting room is pet-friendly! We return at least once a month, and are never disappointed.

We took a detour off the Main Street and were pleasantly surprised! We were pleased to find the tasting room dog friendly, and then we found out just how dog friendly! The resident dog, Oliver, was ready, willing, and able to entertain our dog. They had a wonderful time together while we enjoyed our wine. Thank you for making us feel so welcome with our fur child, for the warm inviting environment, and especially the very tasty wine.

The owner and wine maker is extremely friendly and welcoming, I got a tasting and his wines are really good, the Syrah and the cabernet franc were my favorites.
Their sangria is delicious too but I happen to be there on a cold day. I would totally recommend it.

We specifically visited because they were a wine-tasting place open at noon where some others we looked up didn't open until 4 pm. Tried to stop in twice on Friday after 12 noon (when they open per their web site). Not open, nothing posted on the door about a change. Called at 2 before we went to try again, no answer. Disappointed. Bad service to not be open during posted hours, will not be back.

Didn't expect to find a good local wines in Julian. But all four reds in the tasting were very good. We bought a Sangiovese that was better than what we had been drinking in Tuscany. Great outside Adirondack chairs that were perfect for sipping their sangria and soaking up sun. Very friendly and knowledgable hostess. The talented vintner (from Australia?) was washing dishes. Very cool place.

This place has several of my favorites wines in California. They all taste beautiful. Oh! Btw Being snobbish about my wine, I was never a fan of sangria. This place changed that, you must try it (and buy a growler to take some home)
