In 2016, Skydive San Diego is currently owned and operated by a former Navy SEAL and former member of the famed US Navy Parachute Team, the Leapfrogs. The vision is to transform the drop zone into one of the premier skydiving destinations in the world. A tandem skydive from 13,000 feet above a view of the ocean, Mexico and mountains is like none offered anywhere. It is an incredible experience and should be on everyone’s to-do list. Our tandem instructors are some of the best in the world and will make your experience awesome every time. Come out with your friends, family and they can participate with you or watch you go through all the steps and cheer you on as you land right in front of them. On my seventieth birthday I took what I would call was a leap of faith! I jumped out of a plane in tandem at 13,000 feet with an expert ski diver at Otay Mesa, south of San Diego. We free fell 10,000 feet and then deployed the parachute for the final 3000 feet. I had an awesome view of the Pacific Ocean, the city of San Diego and it's bay and Tiajuana at theMexican border. I would encourage anyone to challenge themselves for a thrilling memory.

I consider myself a ground-lover and not an adrenaline junky. More on the timid side, I jumped with my daughter for her birthday. I was scared. Really scared. But there is a weird calming vibe among all the guys running around the place, like this is normal to jump out of a plane. Leaving the safety of the plane was the HARDEST, and then it got kind of cool. I do get motion sick, and my instructor was very good about turning slowly. If you want to spin like crazy, they can accommodate you. I'm really glad I did it and have some awesome photos to show for it. I would recommend spending the extra money for a video. For most of us, this is a one-time thing. Make the most of it.

My wife purchased a tandem jump for my birthday and it did not disappoint. This was my second jump and both were at this establishment. The first jump was benign, but this jump was the BEST! The young Jesus (Matt?) that took me was knowledgeable (over 4,ooo jumps), helpful (explained everything to me), funny and took pictures at every stage of the jump. I would go back just because of him!! We jumped at 13,000 feet and it was a beautiful picturesque San Diego day. Could not have been better! Make sure you tip these guys well....they deserve it!

I called in April and they told me that when my daughter sprained her ankle very badly that if she wasn't recovered by the time my Groupon expired, they would still honor it. When she went, 3 days after it had expired, they told me they wouldn't honor it and I would receive only a credit amount toward a much larger final bill for the jump. They tried to pawn off the responsibility on Groupon, but what they were telling me about how the system works is not true. I know this because I did call Groupon. Sky Dive San Diego had the ability to honor their word and not charge extra because her documented medical condition rendered her unable to jump for several months, and they chose not to.

This is an operation. They do 100+ tandem jumps each weekend day. That's an insane number! They're able to achieve that through efficiency, but it comes at the cost of the experience for the new jumper.
There's very little to no prep for you on the ground prior your jump. There's some talking it through on the plane's ascent, and then literally as you are falling to the ground, and then that's it. You're disconnected from your partner as they run to get another parachute to go up with another first timer, and you're left trying to get your bearings by yourself after having extreme sensory overload.
There's a better experience to be had for your first jump, so I recommend looking elsewhere. Safety is also an issue. The descent was so fast after the parachute opened that my friend is still trying to pop her ears three days later. My landing was so fast and hard that I broke my coccyx/tailbone, and will now be sitting in pain for a few weeks while it heals. I believe both could have been avoided had this place simply slowed down and not run us through like numbers in a factory.
That all said, if you're a student or an experienced jumper, then this is probably your ideal place as they seem to have plane lifting off every 10-15 minutes.

I had very bad experience
1. I did book the 10AM appointment but it took them 2 hours to get ready.
2. The landing was so bad we had to land so fast and not on our feet’s my back still hitting after two weeks my advice to you don’t do it at this location.
3. I still didn’t receive my video after two weeks.

I got about 11 jumps from this location because I was doing AFF training. Skydiving is in fact and extreme sport and there's always risk involved, but I feel they were negligent on my last jump. I was still a student and had to jump with a coach. The winds seemed to be picking up and it was pretty cloudy as well. I asked them if maybe I should come back another day because of it but they insisted it was ok to jump. The plane was so packed I couldn't even look outside the plane door to locate the drop zone. My coach said he would look for me and said I was good to jump. I jumped and once I pulled my shoot I was in a layer of clouds so I couldn't see. Once I was out of the clouds I was on the complete opposite side of the drop zone which tells me I was dropped in the wrong spot. I knew I was screwed the whole way down. I landed pretty far from the drop zone into the mountain side breaking my leg so bad I can't walk for awhile or work. This company usually was really on top of safety so it really bummed me out. Not to mention they didn't even bother calling my husband to let him know I was injured. If it wasn't for the hospital calling him nobody in my family would of known where I was. My husband called the skydiving center after the hospital called him and the girl he spoke to was rude and didn't give him any information. Really bums me out. I overheard one of the employees saying they had to send 80 tandems home the day before so I felt like they didn't want to miss out on money. I'm very frustrated.

First time skydiving and it was awesome! Really great place to dive, with the location and the scenery of the area. Instructors are awesome, especially my instructor, Aaron. Great group of fun, enthusiastic and laid back people jumping out of planes all day and creating memorable experiences for everyone. Highly suggest if you're looking to skydive in the area.

You're probably scrolling through these reviews, trying to find any reason not to go through this insane stunt; let me assure you that the answer you're looking for is "DO IT!".
Skydive San Diego makes your experience as stress-free and smooth as possible. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a number of extremely experienced instructors that have all jumped 2,000+ times! I was the most excited and open-minded of our group, but my friends were another story. One of them was close to walking back to the car after watching a few landings from the office deck. Our instructors did an amazing job proving to him that they were very skilled at what they do and he was back on board in no time.
Your training session is surprisingly very quick. At first I was turned off by what seemed like a lack of detail (thinking I would need over an hour of training and basic safety protocol), but was extremely relieved that I only had to remember 4 simple instructions as I stood at the edge of the plane and a million other things ran through my head.
The fall itself was... tranquil yet exhilarating. It felt as though the whole world stopped, including you. There was no falling feeling like on a roller coaster; it just felt like you were floating.
The three of us landed with huge grins on our faces and couldn't stop talking about our individual experiences on the way home. Funny enough, the friend that was most scared to go has decided to take on private lessons because he loved it so much!
If it's something you're considering, I say just take a deep breath and commit. You'll be so happy that you did and that you did it with the amazing team at Skydive San Diego!

Thank you for the great review Emilia! What a great story of you and your friends experience. We love hearing your stories. We really do take pride in our DZ and that we have some of the most experienced instructors in the world choose to work here. Thanks for being such a great advocate of how easy it really is. We hope you choose to come back soon and bring some more skeptical friends with you :).

If you are staying downtown in the Hostels...how do I go about/cost of getting to where the sky dive location??

Hey there! We'll it is in a more rural area of San Diego. Unfortunately San Diego is not public transit friendly. You will have to Ãœber, taxi, or rent a car. There is zero public transit to this location and it will take you about 30 min depending on traffic, it will be slower during the week. Not sure what the cost of a cab would be but let me know if I can answer anymore questions.
