Miner Gary worked hard to make our experience a fun one. We dug for a couple hours, each bucket of dirt holding our hopes of finding a big golden nugget. That didn't quite happen, but we found some gold, & it was a cool process. Gary worked just as hard as we did, shoveling next to us, helping us to... More

Not terrible... just not what we expected. We were looking for a personalized experience with a person that would show us how to look for gold, pan gold, and tell us about the local history. What we got was Miner Gary setting up a gold sluicing machine, explaining that we needed to shovel gravel, dirt, etc into a hopper on... More

My nine-year-old daughter had nothing but gold in her mind during the four days we were in gold country. We tried the 2-hour sluicing and panning lessons as an introduction to gold prospecting. Gary showed us all the techniques and explained everything in a way that both adults and children could easily understand. We spent over two hours digging and... More

You will strike it rich and get the feel of the ole time miners if you choose to pan for gold here. They will show you how to pan, then let you do it like a real gold miner.

My son and I had a go at gold panning under the expert guidance of Miner Gary this morning. He was a great help in teaching us enough of the basics to get us started and was on hand with tips and suggestions. And, yes, we did strike gold!

Miner Gary was experienced, prepared, and knowledgeable. The other reviews that say this is the real deal are spot on! My son, 7, wanted to pan for gold over any other attraction in California - we are from the East Coast. It was the best day of our trip. It rained buckets, but we didn't care and Gary had extra... We visited California Gold Panning on a cold dreary December day, but by the time we were there, it didn't matter. Miner Gary had a tent set up along with all equipment. He showed us exactly where to dig and what to look for and even helped with several shovel fulls. We had gloves and wading boots provided to us.... More

Our kids enjoyed fishing for gold in the local water bins. Strolling around the town of Columbia is fun too. There is a blacksmith shop with fun puzzles to try out; they are made of iron.

This is the real deal. Miner Gary actually pans for gold at this site and as a sideline introduces novices like us to the reality of real gold panning. Miner Gary was great. At each stage of the process he showed us what to do, how to operate the machinery and then left us to have fun and do the... More
