Favorite Local Theater
Jan 2020
I enjoy going to this Starplex Theater. Tickets are affordable and the movies shown are reasonably new. Discount theaters used to show only movies that had been out for some time. The ticket sales are friendly and encourage you to be in the rewards program. I generally skip the snack bar, but it is popular. I dont recall ever having problems with the actual showing of films. The theaters and the restrooms are clean enough. All around this is a theater that I continue to return to without issue.

One of the best bargain theaters around
Jan 2017 • Family
If you're looking for a bargain theater, you can't get much better than this. Tickets are cheap - but beware of upcharge for 3D movies. Concessions are also super cheap. And there's no persnickidity people here who are gonna be grumpy at wiggly kids. So this is a great place to bring active kids when it's too rainy or too hot to be outside. It's also a great birthday party option for younger kids.

That said, here's what I don't like, much of which you'd expect at ANY bargain theater: movies are older/not current; food offerings are limited and unhealthy (popcorn, hotdogs, candy, soda. Nothing fresh here); the condition of the theaters is just plain old. It has a dingy smell, seats are a bit worn, and decor is pretty outdated. Ad they are SUPER THOROUGH in checking you for outside food and drinks - they will look in your purse for contraband snacks.

Employees are friendly, and the theater is located in a lovely shopping area, adjacent to some good food options. Ruby's often gives a discount with your ticket stub, so that's a plus.

Overall, if you like bargain theaters, this one is THE BEST. But if you're looking for mid-range or upscale movie experience, look elsewhere.

Awesome movie theatre

Saw finding dory at this theater with my two young kids. It was very clean and the seats were all stadium seating. Attendants were helpful and cheery. Great movie experience.

Now called the AMC Woodbridge 5 Theater...
Apr 2016 • Family
When you hear that a movie theater plays movies for $1.99 the mental image portrayed might be seedy or dirty. But I can tell you that is false. This theater was formally named the Starplex Cinemas in Irvine, CA but it has since been taken over by the AMC chain. Every week you may get one or even two new movies coming here. I think the movies are maybe about 2 months out of "regular" theaters before hitting this place. That's not too bad at all. We all lead busy lives so there is a chance you might have missed these movies when they were in theaters the first time. This is a great place to catch up on your movies...plus you can't beat the price of just $1.99 per person. My family of four normally pays about $50 just in admission to go to a regular theater. What do we pay now? Just $7.96!! Sure the popcorn and sodas still cost the normal higher price but with the money you save it doesn't hurt as much. Do yourself a favor and save some money!!

Great bargain and good movies
Jan 2016
Today,I took my grandson to see a children's movie. I didn't feel like I was being robbed. We had a great time. There was a full house on this school holiday. Everyone seemed to be having fun. We sure did.

Cheap Prices, but Run Down Facility
Dec 2015 • Friends
This place is the way to go if on a budget. For three adults, the tickets were a total of $12 for an evening movie! They tend to play older films which have been released for awhile. We saw the Martian (which by the way was excellent) and this had been out since before thanksgiving. The facility itself is old and needs some updating. The theater itself lacks proper tiering of its seats, so don't sit behind tall people. The seats are comfy, but the people I went with felt the theater was "dirty." The entire chain just got bought by Regal, so expect upgrades soon!

A bargain in our midst!
Aug 2015 • Family
This movie theater is old, tired, and yet it provides a chance to see movies before they are no longer available at a very minimal cost. This theater attracts lots of families, they seem to get many films appropriate for kids. If ambiance is not your family's priority then this will be a treasure.

Inexpensive movies
Aug 2015 • Friends
Starplex Cinemas in Irvine provide a cheap way to view popular movies for a dollar or two. You won't find movies just released, but who wants to fight those crowds? If you can wait a few weeks, you can watch new movies for a fraction of what it cost just a few weeks previously.
Admittedly, the theater itself doesn't have that "new theater smell". It's been well worn...but it's not bad and worth the price to be entertained for a few hours.

Terrific value
Aug 2015 • Couples
Have been going here for several years.

It's second run movies that we'd missed when they first came out.

Facility is clean and staff is polite. Other folks in audience are quiet so it's an easy viewing experience.

Hidden Treasure in Woodbridge
May 2015 • Solo
Fun place to see older movies. No stadium seating, just your basic movie theatre for movies that are ready to hit red box. $1.00 hot dogs if that's what you like. I like going Mon-Thursday. Weekends is usually packed. I especially like going for the last film of the night when there aren't too many people around.
