One of the owners and wine maker, Andrew, was our server. He was obviously very knowledgeable about the wines. Some unusual varietals including mission (which we had not heard of), sangiovese, tempranillo and petite sirah. The winery offered a chocolate pairing for the reds. Meatballs, olive oil tasting and wine. Fun experience. The wines were enjoyable. Well worth a stop.

We had an AMAZING time at Tanis. It’s off the beaten path in Amador County, but worth it. Andy is wonderful and obviously pours his soul into his wines. My SO is the wine aficionado of the two of us, and he was very impressed. You won’t see Tanis serving mostly 2016-18 wines - many were 2013ish. The tasting is free, and while we were there, they had a chocolate pairing to go with each of the five wines for $5. The two of them really got to talk specifics about the wine, it’s always fun to chat with the winemaker. If you’re lucky, Jill will be there and her art will be up for you to enjoy and discuss. We had meaningful conversation about creativity, connection, and soul. If you’re EXTRA lucky, their daughter Cassidy will be playing piano and singing. She was playing covers of classics and modern songs. She’s only 19, and Andy even told us it was her very first time playing for winery guests. We loved her music so much we were disappointed she wasn’t on Spotify! Trust me, you don’t want to miss Tanis. What a wonderful experience.

Tanis is well worth the slight detour off the beaten track. We found the red wines to be outstanding! Full-bodied, soft tannins, and very distinct tastes and aromas per varietal. There are many family-run wineries in this area, but unfortunately many are still trying to find the right flavor notes and offer young wines. At Tanis we found most bottlings were 4 - 5 years old, meaning aged in the bottle as well as the barrel! Not many wineries take the time and care to do that. We will make Tanis a regular stop on our trips up to the Shenandoah Valley!

Presidents day weekend Feb 2018 we took a wine tour with a company I have used several times. ( Review for them coming ) This was the second time I had been to Tanis but it had been several years. This is really the way wine tasting should be. The couple who own and run this winery are great hosts and very knowledgeable. The tasting room is comfortable , they have seating as well as a counter area, beautiful decor, and a nice restroom. The day we went they were serving appetizers with different pairings. ( They have a mission wine that has a great story and we really enjoyed) Out of all the wineries that day, we bought the most at Tanis.... reasonable , good tasting wines. My friend was from out of state, she bought a case and they handled everything to ship her wines. i should mention they also have a nice display of lotions etc. You could make a nice gift basket for someone with the items from their tasting room. I'll be back again.

The proprietors of Convergence recommended Tanis to us so of course we had to stop by. Andrew AKA AWESOME met us in the tasting room and we a had a nice tasting experience. Andrew is not only a wine maker but he likes to cook too. So he has lots of oils and spices to try too. Came home with spices and oils to go with the wine we bought. A great place to check out as Andrew is an Awesome guy who knows his stuff.
