We started at around 10am with good boots and weather gear. DO NOT go into these trails without good hiking boots and water. The Deer Trail is a good one and is about 3.3 miles to the top. We decided to come back down and made the circle by 12 noon. Easy to mederate and no scaling. Great views of... More

What a great place for hiking and camping. To me still a insider tip - well maybe not ;-) Very laid-back in off season, bussy during winter and summer.

Great hike right now you need crampons to make the summit. Great views , strenuous hike, not a beginner trail. The trailhead starts at 6k feet so if your not used to high altitude hiking don't start with this one first. Having said that if you want a quite hike in the woods with great views while getting a crazy... More

For those of you looking to get out into the great outdoors, I want to recommend the little town of Idyllwild. It is about an hour and a half from San Diego but so far from "city". It is on the backside of Mt San Jacinto at an elevation of 5500 feet. The trails and the scenery are so beautiful.... More

Great local place to play in the snow and parking is available on the highway. We went with friends, teenagers and toddler.

My children were having a great time in this gorgeous place, from the moment we took the aerial tramway to the snow fighting.

I don't often give a 5 star review. Granted we were ALONE in this campground beginning of December but none the less. 1 Star for best bathrooms ever, 1 star for well designed sites with privacy and proximity, 1 star for quite area, 1 star for happy, helpful staff, 1 star for amazing area for hiking. This campground is right... More

Perfect hike to bring your dog. It's close to town and heavily shaded. My dog loved meeting all of the other dogs along the way. You can start on the south side and not require a park pass or start at the top (just make sure to get your park pass before you go up).

Every time we have company in Idyllwild we always take them up to the Ernie Maxwell Trail knowing that each one in our group will enjoy themselves no matter what type of hiker or non-hiker they are. The views are amazing and trail can be as challenging as you make it. Remember, it's a popular trail so be courteous, give... More
