The Bolsa Chica Reserve (AKA Wetlands), is one of the greatest places to visit in the area. During the Spring there are numerous species of birds that migrate here to mate. The courting process of these bird species is amazing, and this is a great place to watch it. It has a beautiful trail along the wetlands that takes you... More

If you ever visit HB, please, please, please go to the Wetlands. There are two entrances: the one off Warner has the visitor's center with docents that can tell you so much about the history, wildlife, and ecological significance this place has. The entrance from PCH has a trail that is a loop where you can see fish, birds, and... More

We chose this as a break in beach action. Its free and you have a chance to see birds that we might not have seen somewhere else. There are lots of opportunities for the nature photographer. The only facilities are a port-o-pot...plan accordingly

The preserve could be a really interesting place but the extreme drought of the last several years has dried up so many of the plants and there was not much wildlife when we walked through. Parts are closed off.

In years past, I spent many hours photographing birds up on the hill during the Spring/early Summer months. For some reason, many of the large birds, Great Blue Heron shifted to a place very near my home, Sunset Aquatic Park. There they have built nests and created families all within a single season. A few days ago, while driving by... More

I had the opportunity to walk through this Ecological Reserve. I have been to the Bolsa Chica Reserve a half dozen times over 10 years and it never disappoints. The birder's will love the close proximity to the variety of Hawks, Egrets and water fowl. The walkers will enjoy the undulating track and the three mile course is very enjoyable.... More

It can get a little breezy, but its a fantastic place for a walk. Bring your camera to capture all the birds, fish and other wildlife that frequent this little bay. Great place to take a leashed dog, but please pick up after your animals. (ALSO: Important - STAY ON THE TRAIL - do not venture down to the water's... More
