When our initial booking for a different farm tour was cancelled, it was recommended we book a tour of DaVero Farms & Winery. I'm so glad we followed that recommendation! Because it was President's Day and some staff was off, we were fortunate to have our tour and tasting done by the owner, Ridgely Evers. He led a tour and tasting that was so educational yet personal. When he learned the four of us were agri-producers in the Midwest, our time was spent sharing information and asking questions. The tasting was so informative and held in a beautiful setting. I highly recommend you visit this farm and winery. Oh, and by the way, the wine is delicious!

A lovely farm and winery. The biodynamic farming produces an amazing olive oil, balsamic vinegar and, of course, wines. My children and I stopped by to sample some olive oil and balsamic. I was able to sample non-member wines. We were amazed by the quality of the products we tasted. We also had a delightful stroll around the farm.

My husband and I had the pleasure of a private tasting at Davero with Kristin. The vineyard itself is lovely with a beautiful garden and friendly pigs. The Barbera wine was our favorite of all the wines tasted on our trip. Davero also has amazing olive oil, we recommend the lemon.

Like everyone else, we were bewildered by the multiplicity of wineries and wanted to find one “off the beaten path”. We were directed to this one by another one we loved. We went twice, the first time they were 30 minutes from closing, but they graciously invited us in, sold us a delicious glass of wine, and invited us to wander their amazing garden, which is itself worth stopping for. We went back the next day for a small wine tasting (by appointment) and were really glad we did. Great reviews well-earned, I’m chiming in to stress how cool the garden is. I also took a picture of chicken that exactly matches their logo, so there’s that...

What fun! We drove in, not realizing that one has to make a reservation, but it turns out that there was space open at 3:30, which was about an hour away. We were welcomed in by our host Kirstin. The couple joining us were accompanied by their French bulldogs and we appreciated being asked if we had allergies or any discomfort with them before the dogs came in. Always appreciate the courtesy. The tasting takes place in a comfortable dining room where cheese plates, wineglasses and water glasses have already been laid out. A printed list of wines lets you track the ones you taste and consider others. KIrstin was just a hoot. So smart, so informed and so enthusiastic about everything having to do with wine. She led us through the wines--much laughing, much chatter, plenty of which was off-topic. Then recommended tasting the nibbles with specific wines. My taste buds were so fired up! The tasting included the olive oil with Meyer lemon they make and concluded with basalmic vinegar. Brilliant! The tasting was not only extraordinarily informative, it was entirely without the kind of weird jargon and "more a connoisseur than thou" stuff I associate with wine culture. It was great. The gardens are beautiful and the pigs were just adorable. They came racing over, stinky and muddy just as pigs should be and even the big spotted sow was a cutie. The best possible end to the day. And we came home with a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of balsamic because we still have to fly home. But I have my list and notes.
