My spouse and I just finished a 5-day self supported bike tour with Getaway Adventures. They arranged the inns we stayed at, transferred our luggage, and gave us maps and gpx routes via Ride with GPS. We brought our own bikes. We rode from Healdsburg to Occidental to Guerneville to Healdsburg (2 days at the latter), 25 to 35 miles a day mostly down quiet country roads with few cars. There were many challenging climbs, gorgeous valleys, redwoods, and a bit of wine tasting. It was a great spring getaway/training session with super riding. The best, if you like climbing, was Sweetwater Springs Road. Since Armstrong State Park is still closed (due to fire 2 years ago), the best place to see the redwoods was the Old Grove, a short side trip on day 2 just outside Occidental. The only lousy riding was 6 miles along the Pacific Coast Highway, where we were buffeted by gusty winds on a narrow road with no shoulder and lots of cars. The highlight hotel was the River Belle Inn with friendly staff, great rooms, fab breakfasts and happy hours. The low point for hotels was the West Sonoma Inn in Guerneville, where the room was okay, but where they offered zero amenities and a dirty pool. (Randy, owner of Getaway will be looking for alternative lodging in Guerneville if this place doesn’t get better soon.) We had a great time and would definitely book with Getaway again.
