We did a four day self guided tour of Sonoma and the Russian River Valley. Preston and the team set it up perfectly so we could ride together to our destination, and we could add a few miles if I chose. I applaud the WCB for choosing their routes for scenery and safety and have a selection of great lodging properties to choose from. I was surprised to find these small towns and beautiful landscapes still exist in CA. We are also glad we could support a local business in the area. Highly recommended!

Because we came mid week we had the privilege of having a private tour with Tac on a beautiful sunny day (there must be other kinds of weather here but we haven't seen it). His low-key demeanor, gentle humor, and easy going approach to the ride put at us at ease immediately. We're pretty fit so he stretched the itinerary to match our interest/ability which not all guides are willing/able to do. He took us to some off the beaten path wineries, as well and providing enough suggestions to keep us touring Sonoma throughout the summer. His measured approach to sharing information was ideal since we've been on several wine trips. One thing that really impressed us was he made it clear that it was OUR trip, for example he didn't imbibe, which made us feel completely safe the whole day. Lunch was terrific, Keilen picked up our purchases and dropped them back at our inn, pretty much perfect service from the company all around. By the end of the day we had some great wine purchases, a bit of a sunburn and a new pal. We would recommend Tac and this bike company without reservation.

My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding aniversary riding two Trek bikes from Santa Rosa to the Ocean and then back up the Russian River Valley. Wine Country Bikes booked the whole thing, gave us beautiful bikes to ride with excellent maps and dircections and the routes chosen were very quiete and breathtaking. We were lucky enough to be photographed by the local paper and Andy drove out of his way to get us copies of the paper. He also brought us extra snacks, an extra panier, and picked up some great wine we bought along the way. We have travelled on many continents, sailed boats, riden elephants and been chased by lions but our Sonoma experience was our first bike ride and was definately one of the best trips we've ever done.

what a wonderful idea! we took the one day tour and absolutely loved it! we met at the store at 10am, got fitted with helmets and bikes, and took off with our awesome guide gerard. it was a beautiful day so we decided to venture a little bit further afield and rode all the way out to bella. totally worth the effort! we stopped at 4 different places, loved them all. had a wonderful picnic lunch with sandwiches from the oakville grocery. all the wine we bought we left at the wineries for a van to go back and pick up later. gerard had tons of great suggestions about places to check out on the rest of our trip, and even beyond that - he has been everywhere and it was fun to talk to him about various trips and destinations. i would say a bike wine tour is a must do for any visit to wine country.

My husband and I did the one day Classic Dry Creek Valley tour. From the company's website, I expected that the total ride would be 20-25 miles. From what I calculate on mapquest, the total ride was no more than 15 miles. We rode from the bike shop with a group of 10 plus the guide to Martorana winery, 7.4 miles away. After spending about an hour or more at that winery, we backtracked to Quivira, had a long tasting and lunch there (I believe we spent at least two hours here), then followed the same route back to Geyser Peak's tasting room, where we spent far too long, in my opinion (45 minutes to an hour). After all of this, we didn't get back to the shop until 4:30, when the info provided said to expect to return by 3:30. The only reasons we were so late were the constant stops on the way back and, in my opinion, wasting time at two of the wineries (the group stood around looking bored more than once). I think a better trip would have been a loop tour, rather than one that has you seeing the exact same scenery up and back. I understand that not all of the participants were in very good shape, but if the website leads you to believe you'll get a longer ride, you should get it. Also, with all of the great vineyards/wineries in the area, I don't think Geyser Peak is a good choice. It was just a tasting room - no vineyard, and it had a real corporate feel. Martorana and Quivira were wonderful, highly recommended operations. Finally, I think the guide (Tac) talked too much about things not related to wine and put more focus on himself than he should have. Given the beautiful scenery and vineyards, I would have appreciated more time to explore the area on the bike, a little less time at two of the wineries, and a little less talking by the guide.

My wife and I booked this tour sight unseen, and can't wait to do it again next year. Gerard, our guide, was fantastic, rode at our pace, stopped when we wanted to stop, and had great stories and anecdotes about the dry creek valley. While it might seem like a lot of money for bike tour, it will be the highlight of your visit to wine country. Do it.

The Wine Country Bike Tour in Healdsburg, CA was one of the best experiences we had on our trip. Dave, our guide, was well versed in the area and had first hand experience with vineyards and wineries. Our 27 mile trip took us to several different vineyards for wine tasting and an absolutely wonderful gourmet lunch prepared by the bike company enjoyed under a grape arbor. Even if you don't spend the extra money for a day tour, I recommend contacting Wine Country Bikes to rent the TREK bicycles if you plan to visit the Sonoma area. They will even bring the bikes to your hotel and will answer any questions about the area and its attractions. Healdsburg was one of our favorite little cities. MW

John and Kaylon are dialed into what you seek in Sonoma, your degree of bicycling difficulty paired with the wine, not just what is in a glass, but what you learn of the history of the land and how the people live the land. Their gentle pace through the fires alleviated our concerns of our trip while concealing their true concerns of their friends and families. GO TO SONOMA! They were sure that we designed what we wanted and our experience exceeded, riding literally in the vineyards that is how close you are on the road, over hills and valleys, you feel the microclimates that produce the unique wines and olive oils, East or West, North or South, you understand riding the bicycle. Tac Holcomb was our guide and he was a gifted lead rider as well as story teller, mesmerizing our first day. Martorana and then Dry Creek for lunch, appreciating the families that enjoy their blessed opportunity utilize science to shape their days working in the field. Our 18 mile ride was smooth and easy back into town to Longboard, where we completed our day adding to the wealth of information, from the dirt, water and organic farming to the regulatory, marketing and business. We stayed at the Haydon Street Inn bed and breakfast, cozy and convenient, tasty meals and conversation. Cafe Lucia for a Portuguese dinner and Nalle Pinot Noir, outstanding. The next day it rained nonetheless John and Kaylon set us up, Rochioli for a tasting, peppery olive oil, WOW. Then the tour of the Korbel museum and tasting, entertaining while learning more families devotion to the land and production of quality. A short tide later was Anderson Redwood State preserve to get totally blown away, to include a family of 7 deer that walked feet from us undisturbed. Another short ride we were at Goat Rock Beach, still in Somoma County and you swear that you are on a movie set looking down cliffs to a beach and seals hanging out on rocks. As we rode down the Pacific Coast Highway we appreciated the terrain contrasting the vineyards not an hour away. Bodega Bay to the Spud Point Crab Company for the absolutely no doubt about it best Clam Chowder and crab sandwich that you will every have, forget about Mass. or Maine. Our third day was gorgeous, a 23 mile self guided Russian River ride, with the knowledge of our first day we took in the views and the differences in humidities and temperatures at Porter Creek, tasting a Zin grown in soil with clay compared to soil without clay and back to the Southern Dry Creek DaVero Farms and Winery heading into Healdsburg. We were treated to a tour of the farm, a different peppery olive oil and wines without compare. There are dozens of wineries to visit along the routes John and Kaylon can connect for your type of riding style realizing the ride is just the way to enjoy Sonoma.

My husband and I wanted to explore wine country by bike for 1 day, and chose Dry Creek Valley because of the Zinfandels. We were undecided as to whether to opt for simple (and cheaper) bike hire, or self-guided tour packages that some bike shops offer. In the end we went with just bike hire from WCB and were really glad we did. WCB provided a map with wineries in Dry Creek shown, and recommended a route and a fantastic deli to stop in for lunch. We had a great day out cycling around and simply pulling up outside wineries. Once you get outside the town the road is pretty and quiet, and it's pretty much just one long straight road dotted with wineries either side, so really straightforward. There are more than enough that you can visit without appointments and we did a round trip of about 15 miles stopping at 5 wineries - longer and shorter routes are possible.
If you're simply looking for a day out in wine country, some visits to wineries and want a bit more privacy than doing a group tour I'd definitely recommend this.

Is it ok to bring our 14 year old daughter on the tour?
Written January 12, 2018
Hi! If your daughter is comfortable riding a small adult bike, we would be happy to assist you with planning a self-guided tour. This will give you the ability to be flexible to do as much or little riding as she is up for and also choose some stops that she might find more interesting. I'd suggest riding in Dry Creek Valley and you can find lots of info on planning and routes on our website or just give us a call.
Thanks!
