The Grotte di Castelcivita is an interesting cave system near Paestum and Agropoli. There is parking near the entrance but the site is somewhat remote. That means fewer visitors and smaller groups so the experience is more intimate. We took the basic tour which was...More

Spectacular cave. Historical site. Be sure to visit the nice little city of Castelcivita on the same trip.

This is especially nice on a hot day! 18 degrees all year round. So do bring a light jacket when you go in summer. The normal tour is around an hour, you can also book the more advanced tour (3-4 hours) with headlights and proper...More

Had a two day break, Paestum, Herculaneum then here. By far the best of the three. The guide was enthusiastic and well informed, the formations were incredible and the lighting within just right. We will be back with 6 others for the extended tour.

Incredible and beautifully lit underground formations easily accessed with path and handrails inside this enormous cavern. This was a very interesting visit. The cave is very long; the tourist tour takes about an hour as there are various « rooms » to see, and different types of stalactites and stalagmites formations. The tour guide speaks only italian, so make sure to rent an...More

Wish we could have done the longer one! Beautiful formations and not super touristy and commercial. They have audio tours in different languages and so we tagged along behind the Italians and were perfectly happy. :)

The caves of Castelcivita are stunning and a rare find! The tour does not take too long and the climb is not strenuous. The tour was in English, Italian and German while I was there, and I believe they provide a translator for all languages....More

After running the Agropoli Half Marathon again, a visit to the grotto is now must visit for me. It's an under-world unto itself filled with jaw-dropping formations that are thousands of years old. Learn something new with each visit --- geographic experts found signs of...More

No, unfortunately not. Even the short route has a number of steps and the tour can be crowded.
