Two girlfriends and I blew glass here on a recent afternoon, and what a blast! Andrew was so skilled, knowledgeable and fun. He made us feel that we were artists and our pieces turned out so beautifully. This is a great friends activity and they also can do business groups.

We all had a fantastic time. Douglass is a great teacher and was very patient with those of us who needed to be reminded over and over again as to what to do. Suzy is helpful and was great at answering all the questions that we had. The whole experience of blowing glass, and watching our friends do the same, was a lot of fun. Our only disappointment was in the colors of our final products; we were told to find an example on the shelves that we liked, and that we'd be able to duplicate/modify it for ourselves. Only one of seven looked at all like the samples we'd chosen. Though we were all newbies to blowing, but not to glass, we asked if the glass colors would change in the kiln-- as many do... but that was not the case. If I were to do this again (which I would in a heart-beat), I'd like to choose my own colors so I know what I'd be getting in the end. All-in-all, a fun experience, though I'd be sure to double-check the size and color of the frit if I were to do it again.

We had a fantastic time learning how to work with glass. Bought our package on group on. My husband, 12 year old daughter and I really enjoyed our experience. Jack our instructor was awesome. With a great sense of humor.
This is only for 12 and up but definitely a cool outing.

My husband has been wanted to take a glass blowing class for years, so I made an appointment at HMB Art Glass for one of his 20th Wedding Anniversary gifts!
We both made Memory Balls.
We received excellent instruction and safety gear.
I must say, glass blowing is not easy...but it was certainly FUN!
Would we do it again? ABSOLUTELY!

This was a highlight of our trip to Half Moon Bay. Doug was fantastic and patient with every person from every skill and interest level. Safe, friendly and the results were beyond expectation. 100% will do this again.

We had such a great time. The whole experience took about 30 minutes for the two of us. Lots of options and colors to create. Something very different to add to your trip.

This is a chance to do something fun which you can actually use in your home or give as a gift. The best project is a pumpkin which you can decide on the size and colors. The "assistants" make sure you are safe and successful.
If you can find a coupon it's even more affordable. Get there early so you don't have to wait for everyone else to complete their projects. Good parking. The winery is okay but not always friendly to those who stop by. Very Expensive. Half Moon Bay is a fun town - lots of restaurants and shops.

I had a terrific time here with my friend, learning how intricate this art is. Although we sure don't have the skill of the professionals, we ended up with a wonderful piece of usable art (wineglass!) that we'll have for years.

So my wife Jill is gonna review this one for me. She and my two kids 11yr boy and 8 yr girl took the 11:00 class.
Wow, thank you Doug and Andrea for a once in a childhood chance to do something really unique.
My greatest fear was that the kids would not listen long enough to make this experience special, but I was so wrong. My son is a really difficult kid to impress and he was so engaged in this activity (he made a miniature terrarium) that it made me see him in a whole new light. My daughter watched intently before it was her turn and with Doug's help, she made the most beautiful ornament. I laughed with Andrea about how I thought this may be a disaster with hot glass, iron poles, a furnace and kids, however, Doug was very patient in his explanations and knew just when to jump in for assistance. Thank you for such a memorable moment and a true treasure for a souvenir. They happily agreed to ship our glass home to us which gives the kids some delayed gratification from our trip to CA. We hope you will visit Doug & Andrea and tell them that I sent ya! - Jill

This operation runs out of a barn like structure in the parking lot of a winery. There is one person that runs the actual glass blowing area, and one in the front to greet and manage customers. They have some glass work for sale, presumably some of the pieces that people failed to pick up.
You sign up for their class from their website, where they take about six people per class. The class is basically five people standing and watching while one person works like an apprentice to the master glass blower. It takes about 10-15 minutes per person. You'll do the blowing, and the heating, and lots of turning, while the master will do the forming and make sure you don't mess things up.
Tip: Arrive about 30-45 minutes before the class, unless you want to hang around, wait and watch the other students go first. It's first come first served, and they start the class as soon as anyone shows up for it.
Tip: If you are a germaphobe, bring an alcohol wipe to wipe down the blowing end of the glass blowing pipe. To blow the glass, you put your lips on the end of the pipe and blow. The pipes are shared.
After your magnificent art piece is completed, it must be placed in a cooler to cool down, a process that takes a day. The memory balls take two days, one to cool, and one to drill a hole in the bottom. They will ship it for a fee, or plan to come back to pick it up.
We did memory balls, which came out fabulously if I must say. The whole process was interesting and fun, as you do get to do a lot of the work. Would recommend to others as a fun way to spend a couple hours before headiing to downtown Half Moon Bay for a meal.

I am planning a trip with my three teen age grand daughters in mid July, 2016. Would this be an appropriate activity and what is the cost? It sounds like something the four of us would enjoy.
